Default 06 z06 install

background: I'm installing a JL 13w7, JL 1000 amp, and 20 Soundstream farad capacitor into an 06 z06 with Bose, but no Navigation.

First, Which PAC interface does this car need? The AOEM-GM24? Does this tie in behind the factory radio? Any walkthroughs on taking the console apart?

Second, anyone have recommendations regarding the best supplier to allow me to tap into the battery? Is the best course to replace the ends of my factory power cables with an aftermarket provider and tie on there? Again, specific vendors would be appreciated.

I know this combo will overpower the factory stuff and am going to upgrade the head unit, speakers, and amp later. Just want to nail down this piece first.

Thanks,
Jay

Ok I dont know the C6 specifics as I have only worked on one. The Pac interface will connect behind the headunit. For power get a GM sidepost adapter and you will be set should only be a few dollars, differend cable ends are not necessary at all. Check out the C6 FAQ for more info

From what my installer tells me and he runs a regning national champion installation shop, he says no one needs capacitors. They are just bandaids for other problems. Mainly a lack of juice. He made a good point to me once. If your cars charging sstem can't keep one battery and our amps running then how could it keep two batteries and your amps running.
He said especially with JL amps which I own and love there is no need for capacitors. Just use a better ground from the battery to the car(a usual weak link and then anything with over 500 watts can usually use a better battery. Greater than1K watts needs an alternator. Nice sub and amp by the way. I have a JL250 and their sub box made for the C6Z.
There are some pics on this site of someone taking the console apart> PM me towmorrow and I will call my guys with your questions. They will know the answers. Best of luck.

Here's a few pics of mine.

there are a few of us on the boards with more then 1k wrms and stock alts. I'm not in that category yet (well actually i have no wrms seeing how i am totally ampless in my car)
The cap debate is for a whole new thread...one that i wont involve myself in because I dont know enough about caps and car audio. i think he missed the boat on his explanation of how caps actually work though. A cap feeds off of excess energy that would otherwise not be used.

i bet i could make a beer analogy if you really wanted me to

I think many use caps when they dont at all, in some instances it helps and when I say some I mean huge systems that already have big 3 wiring and a HO alternator. 99% of people need to do the big three and will have minimal to no dimming whatsoever

krl, the aai-gm24 is for feeding an external audio source *into* the factory head unit. I'm looking to get the factory signal *out*. thanks for the offer however.

While I agree with scott_fx regarding the cap potentially being a whole new thread... lemme just say this. *laugh* The capacitor serves as a fast-response, peak high-voltage, short-lived power supply for the amp. While they could be used to cover up shortcomings of the electrical system, they still provide a level of performance that would be difficult to achieve even with upgraded alternators, big 3 wiring, and batteries. The idea is to prevent the voltage drop that one would typically see regardless of the number of batteries or alternator amperage. While a HO alternator would response to the voltage drop, the response time is slower than a capacitor 1 foot from the amplifier.

Speaking of upgrading the big 3... does anybody know the impact the aluminum frame has on the electrical system performance with the z06? I was planning to power and ground directly to the battery since it is in the rear of the car and in close proximity. But how conductive is the link between the battery and the alternator?

I know, I know... probably more questions it takes experts to answer.
