yup, does sound a bit like marketing. In some cars a set of tweeters mounted in the pillars firing across sounds pretty good. Like in my car, but it's not a vette. It's a VW and the stock tweeter locations make for a very uneven sound so I moved the tweeters to the pillars in my latest install and it sounds great. Imaging is not perfect, but the sound stage is high and I enjoy the way it sounds. It does seem a tad bright but the again I'm using quarts (albeit with the tweeters on the lowest setting) Best setup I've had in my car in a while and it is very simple. I also use rear speakers with is a big no no in many peoples opinion. But again I dont compete and I like some rear fill in normal everyday music listening. FWIW they are really low and you really can't even tell they are there unless you turn them off.
Back on topic though I like my quarts very much. They are some older RSB160's with musicomp crossovers I got on the 'bay for around a bill. Sound great, great speakers and I got a helluva deal. Used but in great shape and not much play time on them. I've also done many cars with JL components, mainly XR's and they sound decent as well. Great midbass on the JL's. Never got to do a set of ZR's before I left the company that sold JL. I'd try to save a bit more like others have mentioned here, if you can spend 3-400, the options get really good. The vettes sound good though with some good components, everything mounted in the door on a solid baffle, deaden the doors a bit and they will rock. Always had good luck getting good sound in C5's
good advice everyone. I have take the advice adn i will save up and go up a little. I just dont want to go crazy thats all. I figured if i started low, you guys would steer me in the right direction. Nothing too crazy, but better than what i was shooting for. I am eying the ed 6500s and the 6.1s, who knows, that may change when i ge tback to work and have time to do some more searching. Thanks for all the suggestions so far. There will be no way in the near future that I will be adding more than a set of tweets and or horns(scott ) im just a guy relearning stereo for the first time in years. Anyway off to bed to sleep on a few decisions
Audition a few set ups before you pull the trigger bro using a souce you know VERY well. I have heard $10k front stages that imaged great, but I did not personally enjoy the sound itself. I have heard $100 coaxial systems that sounded great with a nice fiberglass build out and some work put into the aiming. It all depends on your ear and your musical taste, but again you can't go wrong with quality ( I should patent that or something)
yup. i think that cl-61a is the same as cl-61 but the baskets don't match the specific 'cdt red' close enough so they sell it as 'b-stock' but the quality is exactly the same
i doubt it seeing how the 4" and the 6.5" speakers in the cl-641 are the same as the speakers in the cl-61 and the cl-41. wouldnt hurt to shoot cdt an email and ask though
Good advice guys, I know I listened to several setups prior to pulling the trigger on mine... Also check out Zalytron.com you can get the setup fej has from Elliott... Great deal!!!!! Great Sound!!!!
