last fall another forum member and i installed a stereo in my car the system is as follows: alpine hu 9855, 2 jl audio amps 300/4 and 500/1,
diamond audio front components and rear coaxils and a 10 inch diamond audio sub. the system was fine last fall and i store the car with the battery tender on my optima redtop. this march i started the car no problem (end of march) used it a couple of times (2) in april and come may went to start the car the redtop was dead. so in the beginning of may i returned the redtop and got a yellow top. iused the car once since then and started it once and let it run for ten minutes. today i went to start the car and the yellow top is to weak th start the car. i put the tender on and when i came home tonight it was worse. i didnt have a problem before i put the stereo in so i think it and electric drain from it somewhere any ideas would be appreciated i need to do something asap. thanx brad
Hook up a mutimeter between the negative battery wire and the battery. Then start pulling fuses until the reading goes down. I had similar prob, turns out the deck had a short in it and was always on.
when doing a stereo...you should go with the optima yellow top battery...all the amps you will need, and when it goes dead , just charge it up and you will be okay.....

He put a yellow top in to replace the earlier Optima red top.
They gave him a bad cell.
He stopped by and I put a voltmeter on it and all was well with the new battery with no power drain at all on the system.
I recommended a cap for extra support as he has a fair bit of fire power in his set up. (2 JL amps)
That install coming soon I believe.

I know your proly generalizing the meter calling it a volt meter, but you want to be on amps or mili-amp scale in series with the batt to find a power drain.

In addition, we ran a few load tests on the car and the new battery held up excellent.
