Modifying I-Pod connector

there are 19 wires connecting the 2 boards if that tickles your fancy JMc. If your good with soldering small connections and wires, then this should be no problem for you to make a connector

Most cameras have a "macro" button or setting that allows better close up shots, but I got the jist, and that's all I needed. I basically want o flip the cable around the other way, and I think I can do that with no trouble. I've got one of those puppies on order and we'll see where it goes from there. Thank you again.

I found that I was able to fit the dock inside the cupholder of my C5 entirely. HOWEVER, once it was in place, I could not fully open the cupholder lid any longer because the dock was in the way, and it wouldn't open enough to allow the insertion of the iPod. Drat!! So close! I was damn near unable to get the dock back out again without breaking the cupholder lid in the process!!
But the important thing is -- the dock fits -- sort of. Right now, I'm looking at other places I might be able to stash it, but I may just cut away more of the cupholder bottom so I can sink the dock down another quarter inch or so, to clear the lid. I want to leave the lid in place, otherwise simply removing it might be the way to go. Next, I need to test the operation and make certain that the iPod2Car functions pass seamlessly through the docking station.

The docking station should work just fine with the iPod cable coming from the iPod2Car interface.
At least it did with mine when I tested it (I'm using the mp3yourcar.com interface which is similar).
I had contemplated this too and tried like heck to get it to work but then I discovered the spec.dock that Matt Turner is marketing at 2point5.com and decided to go that route...
This forum never ceases to amaze me, some incredibly talented people here; I'm sure you'll get it to work!!!!
Good luck man

This dock connector cost me $25. So if I can make it work, then terrific. I need to check how much clearance is actually below the bottom of the cup holder, but if there's enough (and I think there is), I'll probably wind up pulling the console again anyway, and use the carboard piece that surrounded the dock I just bought as a template, then mark the bottom of the cupholder from underneath and dremel out the opening. I'll use hot glue to secure the dock in place. Should be done with it soon, but we've got 100 degree temps right now and I'm going to wait for the weather to cool down a little bit first.

I've managed to avoid that for a long time, but what the heck. This is going to involve pulling the console, which is something I really didn't want to have to do again, but now that I've already done it once, it shouldn't be any big deal.
My intention is to use only the dock base, without the white plastic cover that comes with it for my 30 gig Video iPod, since it takes up a little less space. Once I have it in place, I will fit some sort of a black plastic or metal cover over the top of it (or perhaps simply cut out the opening in the rubber cup holder insert that was in there to begin with), then sandwich that in place with the plastic 30 gig universal dock adapter that I've ordered separately. I'm going to use plastic paint to paint the dock adapter black so it all blends in.
If it wasn't so $%&ing hot today and I didn't have a road trip planned, I'd be out there making it happen right now. But I'll probably tackle this thing and wrap it all up by the middle of the week when the temps are expected to fall back down a bit. I'm pretty excited now... I feel like I'm in the home stretch.
