If I use an aftermarket headunit's pre-amp outputs instead of the amplified plugs, would I be able to use the stock BOSE system's setup without rewiring everything?
Just a question for you. Why would you want to keep the bose amp? The only benefit that I can see is that its already wired up for you, other than that I would replace it all. You can get some nice stock size speakers for under $100 and a decent amp for about $150 so depending on what kind of deck your going with you can really get away with a good sounding system for fairly cheap
BTW I dont know the answear to your question....sorry.

Ok, sorry, didn't read they post correctly; thats a good question. Andy, any ideas? I'am not sure if the preamp outputs would have enought current for the Bose amps. You would may be better off with adtapter.
I am looking to do the same. Have you found any info? Ecklers has a JVC head unit for Bose systems but they want $500 for it. I can't tell what model it is.
No you cannot use the pre-amp out to drive the bose amps. You will need to purchase an adapter to complete the circuit. There are two types that I am aware of. One takes the amp output of the head unit and filters/transforms the signal to be usable at the bose amp. Generally the maximum output (watts) that these types of adapters can handle is about 80 watts. The other type uses the pre-amp outputs and conditions that signal for the bose amp. This on the surface would seem the better solution for keeping the bose system up with an aftermarket head unit. I would think it would generate less noise at the bose amp. I just purchased one of the line level adapter from CarDomain.com.
