I have an appointment scheduled for Monday to have an AVIC N2 installed and I'm getting cold feet. It seems as I read user reviews that I find one bad one for every good one I find. I'm worried about the limited nav functions while moving (could care less about watching DVD's while moving). Any users care to share their opinions prior to my install so I can still select a differenct unit? Thanks in advance for your help and any input appreciated.
Tell your installer not to follow the grounding/wiring as in the manual, and he will know what to do.....which will leave you with ability to navigate while in motion, as well as view movies (DVD) or TV (if you have a TV tuner).

I had heard about that. So it really does work? Thanks for the heads up.

I have mine set up to watch DVD's while in motion, But still can not use navigation? care to tell us more?
You can use the voice system to navigate to preset destinations while moving.
I cant really comment on the Nav since Ive honestly never used it but I can say that the N1 is my 6th or 7th fold-out tv and it is, by far, my favorite. It has its drawbacks like 6.5" screen and the aesthetics dont compare to the Alpine units (my two previous were the iva-d300 and d800) but overall, it is a far superior tv and i am very pleased with the tv.
if i was going to get a new tv, id look at the n2/n3 and the z1. i havent seen a z1 in person so i cant comment on it.
let me know if you have any specific concerns and id be happy to address them!
Do a search for the AVIC N2 bypass. It's all over the net and works.
Basically:
1) Ground parking brake sensing wire.
2) Peel silver sticker on underside of h/u
3) Use the gold circuit tracing pen from Radio shack and connect the two points exposed under the sticker.
4) Enjoy (responsibly) full use of nav and video while in motion.
N3 users will merely find a switch under the sticker. Just ground the p-brake wire and flip the switch under the sticker.
I have the N3 and have bypassed. Just because I can watch movies while driving doesn't mean I do, or you should. You could drive a car with your feet....
