Finally received my INfinity 3.5" tweets for doors. Will install them tomorrow. ONe question guys, the speakers came with two black
barrel shaped items with wires on each end. They are about an inch long and about a 1/4 inch in diameter. Look like some sort of resistors. They have 50V and 100uF on them, along with BIPOLAR written along the bottom. Where does these hook up and do I need to hook them up? Thanks. You guys are the greatest.
Pretty sure those are inline caps, commonly known as "bass blockers", basically a very inexpensive way of moving the "crossover point" up. They are kept inline on the positive cable.
Basically you have a 3.5" speaker that has no business playing below about 300hz, and that small inline capacitor helps keep those frequencies below whatever Infinity decided the speakers frequency range should be, from playing (well playing very loud, sure it is a 6db rolloff).
Just wire it in, mainly for speaker protection, but also gives some form of frequency management. Hope that helps
Thanks Fej. After doing some investigation, I found out that they are bass blockers, and you just reinforced what I thought they were. Now, Can you tell me which wire is the positive one? Is it the one with the largest terminal? Thanks.
