Default C5 Tweeter Changeout

Does anyone know if I can just change out the front
stock tweeter in the Bose setup? I do not want to
change the whole system, but I think some better
tweeters in the stock system will give me better sound
than the Bose. I think they are 3.5 inches and could
just be swapped out. Any info would be helpful. Thanks.

Thanks Scott. One question that I can't seem to get answered is
what type of speakers would be good for the rear? 2-way, 3-way,
etc.?

it's a matter of preference really. i think the majority of people that run an amplified system go with out the rears. since it seems like you're not changing out anything but speakers you'd benefit from the rears added spl (volume). personally i wouldn't waste my money on a 3 way coaxial speaker because most of the highs will be lost by the time they get to your ear anyways.

just look for something that is pretty efficient and you'll probably be pretty happy with the results. if not.....time to get an amp and some compenent speakers :-)

a 2way coaxial should be just fine for the rears. just match it to the HU output and you should be fine

okay, I added 12" sub in rear compartment and replaced 5.25" speakers
behind seat. Bass is awesome but I don't like the high end sound. I would like to get some more high end tweet in the sound. Would some more 3.5" tweets in door help or will I need an amp for the high end?

you are starting to tread on doing an aftermarket install it all starts with just wanting to add a sub. try replacing the 3.5"s up front and see if you like it. But part of the problem stems from the bose HU. Some have replaced the 3.5" twidler and have liked it. I almost went this route, but was talked into just dumping the whole bose crap. Im glad I did, I couldnt be happier.

The bose, or as we affectionately refer to it as the "blose" system does not have a true "tweeter" in it. It only has a 3.5" or so midrange that extends into the 10k hz range or so and sort of tops out (fades away), and even that range is at a diminished quality and volume because the stock paper midrange just flat cannot move fast enough to play any higher.

Many people swap out the 3.5" stock speaker with a nice 3.5" mid/tweet combo driver from Infinity, Polk, JBL, or Alpine (think those are the options). Start at about $40 and run up to around $100 I think. Will certainly make an improvement, whether that improvement is enough for you all depends on your ears

Do the math and gauge whether the sound quality improvement of an entirely aftermarket system is worth the investment. Try and listen to a system or two in your area to help you decide.

Thanks DPG and Fej. Just ordered a pair of 3.5 inch infinity kappas.
Will install them and see how it
sounds. I also read that I could run a pair of tweeters in parallel with
the rear speakers, but I'm not sure if the signal to these speakers
is high end enough to make a difference and also I would have to find a place to put them.
I guess if I'm not satisfied, I'll start
thinking about a complete system. I really thought
the Bose system was better than what it is. It's
not nearly what it's hyped up to be. If you've ever
been in the presence of a decent sound system, you
know right away the Bose system is junk. Can't believe
they put this bulls!$@ in these high end cars....venting.

It's amazing how far you can go/where you can get with good marketing.

The Kappas are 2 ohm speakers and I think that won't work with the Bose system. Hopefully, others will chime in on whether 2 ohm will work or not.

I've also considered switching out the 3.5 inch and 5.25 inch speakers. If I do it, I will use Boston Accoustic S series.

I ordered the Infinity Kappa 32.7CF 3.5 in 2-Way Speakers and they are suppose to be 4 ohm. If I'm wrong please let me know.

i think those will work, i'd forget about the tweets for the rears. you're just going to pull the soundstage behind your head.

Found out the Infinity Kappa 32.7CF 3.5 in 2-Way Speakers are 2 ohms and the Infinity Reference 3012cf 3.5 in 2-Way are 4 ohms. Which do I need? Is there a difference? Will one fry my system? or should I go with another brand? Any help is appreciated.

The 4 ohm model for sure. The stock blose amp is not set up to run at 2 ohms and you will fry it, maybe not immediately, but sooner than later. Although that could be a good excuse to get a real system

Thanks fej. I will try new 3.5" tweets and see how it sounds, but really
in my heart I know I'm headed for a whole new system. I'm almost half way there with new sub, amp, and tweets. All I need is HU, small amp, and door speakers. I'm use to my kenwood system in my truck which is my daily driver and I refuse to listen to anything less when I'm cruisin in my leisure time in my vette.

I want you to post your impressions after installing the 3.5". I might just do that with my car since I am running the Blose plus a sub for now.
