Default radar detectors

How many run with a radar detector?

What kind and where do you place yours?

Just picked up a Solo S2 from Escort. Seems like it got good reviews and I like that it is battery powered. Been placing it just below the rear view mirror I suppose for the best view forward/aft.

I have one of those, the cordless.

I put it on the dash when I intend to drive fast, usually on highways.
I keep it out of sight when I'm driving normal.

It does pick up signals well.
I know it saved me a few times.

My last ticket was 11 years ago

I dont bother getting a radar detector. I only have problems with cops in my hometown and they use the type of POP laser that is only detectable when they shoot you with it. I just think it'd be a waste of money for me.

Valentine 1 on the windshield under the rearview mirror. This detector is awesome, i wouldn't use another. it's probably saved me 7-10 tickets between all three of my cars. I think the valentine 1 is so worth it all my cars have their own. I figure that they will pay for themselves and they have, you can ask the Tahoe that sped by my a few weeks ago on the way to Vegas, that was pulled over about a mile later.

I have an S2 as well and I like it... No cord to deal with, one button to release and it's quickly put away if necessary...

I haven't used it much since I bought it 6 months ago though, I've been in VA half the time where they're illegal...

I did get to use it on my trip from LA to Phoenix in early April... Worked great and even let me know when VG2 was being used in the area around me... In my Caddy I keep it above the rearview mirror under the windshield tint strip, works great there and out of sight...

I was planning on a trip this weekend but it got rescheduled and for a trip through lots of states seems appropriate. I've only been stopped once and got a warning. But it doesn't seem to hurt to know when your being painted. It has lots of features plus I'm interested in seeing the AWS mode work to know about traffic issues ahead. Yeah that invisible mode is pretty kewl too.

Escort 8500. It sits right above the dash, right in my line of sight.

I don't wanna jinx myself, but I'm glad I have it!

I ran my V1 power wire up inside the interior plastic to near the mirror. I mount it up there, and I use the visor to block the lights from cops and tailgaters behind me. Higher will always get you a little extra range.

Yeah when I first stuck it down low and looked at the line of sight it appears that its' just too low because the Vette sits so low. So I opt'd for the spot under the mirror.

Escort 8500 just above the dash. Great line of sight and has great sensitivity. Keep an eye on the cordless battery. When the battery starts to go, they are not as effective. It has saved me many times and I have been lucky enough to escape the occasional laser when I was driving through Lakeland a while back.

Yeah this S2 model has a auto shutdown mode and battery warning at 1.7v so my thought was hmmm extra batteries in stowage comp.

Absolutely and having one that senses them all is nice just know info.

I agree. I have the V1 and love it. I even cover it with a baseball cap (when it's in use) to conceal it, and it works flawlessly. I opted for the concealed lighted version, so when the V1 goes off, nothing lights up from underneath the ball cap. I'd never use anything else again.

I use the Escort 8500 X50. It's POP sensative-they use the POPradar here and it's saved me already-never leave home without it!

Since this is going to turn into a comparison thread anyways...

I want to say that the luxury Inifinity and GM suv's are really getting on my nerves tripping the laser on my V1.

It doesn't seem to be backup sensors either, unless they're really good at hiding them, and theres lots of new cars with backup sensors that dont trip it.

I can definitely recommend the Valentine 1. A bit pricey at $400 but I like it a lot. The directional arrows make a big difference in that you actually know where to look when it goes off.

Of course you are going to slow down when it goes off, but it always helps if you can actually know the whereabouts of the radar source.
