Default Need some good advice

This goes out to all of the knowledgable and semi-knowledgable people out there who are familiar with car audio!

I know lots about home theater, but essentially NOTHING about car audio, thats why I need everything listed out for me straightforward and easy to understand

I want to put an Alpine IVA-W200 ( http://www.alpine-usa.com/en/product...model=IVA-W200 ) into my stock '95 vette. Right now I have the BOSE gold, stock everything. I ALSO want to replace the speakers and add a sub.

SO, my question is, will this head unit fit? (I believe it should)

What kind of speakers can I attach to it, and are they attached directly? (I know its 50x4 so Im assuming thats 4 speakers at 50 watts each? Or is there an external amp I should be using?)

I know you can make sub boxes for the cargo area, can a dealer do that?

Basically what I want is advice on what CAN (and your preference of what SHOULD) go in my 95 vette in replacement of the stock BOSE thats quality and relatively affordable. Will it all work with the head unit, and other basics.

I really just dont want to go into a dealer and have them work me over and sell me some system while I follow them like a lost puppy dog.

I was looking into that head unit as well. I can't tell you anything about your '95 but that 50x4 output on the unit is max power. It's really only rated at 18 watts per channel at 1%THD so I wouldn't rely on it for speaker amplification. I would definitely use an external amp since you are replacing your stock speakers.

You can put your new head unit in this vette with a kit from Metra part # 99-3051. I can get it for you shipped for $20. drop me a pm if you need the kit. As for the speakers and output from the deck, the 50x4 is max output, just as psykod said. You can certainly use the deck to power your new speakers, but you may not hear them much with the targa top off... so you may want to consider adding an amp to your setup. The amp will allow you to turn up the volume without your new speakers getting all distorted sounding. You will of course be able to listen to them at a louder, and more clear level with an amp.

Up front, the speaker pod in the kickpanel is a 4" component setup in the bose pods under the carpet. The rears usually are a 6.5" speaker, but with the removal of the Bose pod, you can put in a 6x9. As for the sub box, a good installer, or stereo shop can custom build you a sub box to suit your needs based on the subwoofer and cargo space you are using for this box.

Good luck, and hope this helps!!
