Audio experts
The orginal(I think) 76 radio recently stopped working and is driving me nuts not hearing any sound. I've installed a few radio's in my day, but wouldn't call myself any type of expert. I pulled the dash apart and i'm attempting to figure out if the radio has gone bad or something else.
When I turn the radio on, it lights up and I can faintly hear sound coming from the internal radio speaker. The two front speakers have no sound. I'm unsure if the radio finally went, if its the speakers, or if its the silver amp looking thing that the radios is connected too.(Is this some type of amplifier???). Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot?
Thanks in advanced.
But most likely it has blown the amp. You need to hook it up to diff speakers to be sure. If its blown your better off buying a new one. You can get factory correct restos somewhere im sure...
Typically, the amps tend to go out, and when replacing the radio and amp, you need to rewire or replace the speaker while you are replacing the head unit. The reason is that the factory wiring back then used a common ground wiring setup which is not usuable by the new stereo equipment typically.
Anyhow, hope this helps!!
