Basic Questions
Car is an '88/auto/currently Bose AM/FM/Cassette
Its been a long time since I bought a car stereo and a a lot seems to have changed.
1) What is DIN? Do I care about this?
2) Will any modern Stereo system operate my power antenna or do I need to do something special?
3) Can I use the stock speaker wire? - what determines this.
Thanks

din is the size of the head unit. your car is either a double din or din and a half. regardess you'll be able to put a single din in it's place with a install kit. you don't need anything special for the power antenna except for possibly a patch cable to convert your antenna into a more univerasal connection.
don't use the stock wire, you'll just run into headaches. also i suggest going through crutchfield instead of target. you'll get all the adapters and install kits free with the radio, the quality will most likely be better (i'm assuming target doesn't sell any major brands but i could be wrong) and you'll also get install instructions.
maybe something like this:
