Default c6 base stereo speaker wiring

Hello everyone,
This is my first post, but I've been checking the forum since the beginning of '06 when I bought my first 'vette, an '06 coupe with the base stereo. I am upgrading the speakers only at this point and have bought a pair of Polk db6500 component speakers. ( I have Polk speakers in my other vehicle and in my home already....) How do I wire them up, since there are separate wires already going to the woofer and tweeter? How do I use the crossover that comes with the Polks? Thanks for your help!

you pretty much wire it all into the crossover it should be labeld, input, woofer, tweeter. the instructions should explain it as well. The polk components are one of my fav pairs of speakers you wont be disapointed

I ran into this problem as well with my Polk SR6500's. I thought I wouldn't have a problem with them because they were Bi-Ampable.

The factory amplifier divides the output into a low pass and high pass signal to the factory speakers. However, the high pass signal is actually crossed over quite low, since it is really driving a fullrange.

If you hook up the high pass wires running from the factory amps full range section into your new speakers crossover, you won't have any bass.

If you hook up the low pass wires running from the factory amps low range section into you new speakers crossover, you won't have anything but bass.

What I ended up doing was experimenting with the wiring until I found something I could live with for a while. I ended up running the + input formerly going into the factory woofer into the + input on my crossover and the - input formerly going into the factory full range into the - input on my crossover.

This gave me the best sound until I replaced the factory amplifier. The only problem I had with this configuration was a slight pop as the radio shut down, caused I'm sure by a floating ground.

Please note that I did this knowing that I would be replacing my factory amp as soon as I could afford it.

If you know you are going to replace the factory amp and you don't want to fiddle with the wiring, just use the factory full range wire. It's almost full range, probably rolling off somewhere in the 120hz range.
