I have a 1990 C4 coupe w/ an Eclipse HU and Infinty 5010 comp speakers in the front location, and Infinity 6 x 9's in the rear all driven by the HU. I am tired on not being able to hear the speakers on the drivers side because they are blocked by my leg. I am going to have the front speakers installed into the door panels, and I am thinking of putting two ED 6.5 woofers were the Infinitys were. I am also going to add an amp, perhaps a JL Audio Slash 300/4.
So my questions are, should I wire the ED's as subwoofers, or should I just wire them together with the Infinitys? or should I use a crossover? will the amp have enough power to drive all of the speakers (including the rear)?
I would build a basic crossover. You don't want to run the 6.5" drivers as subs, they are not designed for that... but they are designed to run in the 150~1000 hz range, with no problem - if not a bit higher, but since I haven't checked their ratings, I donno for sure.
What you CAN do is this... run the rears off the head as you have been, and use the 4 channel amp to drive the fronts, one channel for the 2-ways, one channel for the 6.5" drivers. I think the / series have a built in crossover, if so, you can tune with that.
i think he's talking about the eu-700's which can be used as mid bass or as a dedicated sub.
If i were in your shoes i would use chans 1 and 2 for the door speakers and 3 and for for the subs. i'm not sure about the ratings on that amp but the subs need a solid 100-150 wrms and hopefully you can make a box for them in those locations (the box will really make them shine but they can work as free air subs too)

Scott, you are saying to use channels 1 and 2 for the door speakers, and to bridge channels 3 and 4 to run to the eu-700's as subwoofers? The amp is 150 watts bridged, I believe; that should be enough to run them. I think i am going to try hooking them up both ways, and see what the sound like, when I get that far. Thanks Andy and Scott
