I just had a system installed in my 2002 C5 that included an Alpine 9857 Head unit. The head unit can control the IPod remotely. The installer put the IPod cable in the console and I think it turned out really nice.
The rest of the install c/w with pictures is in the What are you running thread. The installer took a bunch more photos which I'll have up on my Flickr site soon.
Looks good I like how your installer used a grommet very profesional, what are your thoughts on the headunit and ipod integration, i really like it. How does that sub sound firing down and all, you could build a box to drop it in the main storage cubby might clean it up a bit. Did you use any sound deadening in your doors at all.

Looks good!! As a professional installer, that is how I would do it as well... I have also simply removed the ashtray "insides", and instead of cutting a hole, I have hidden the plug directly behind the ashtray door, with plenty of length stashed in the dash, so you can even pull out your Ipod cable, and put your Ipod in your cupholder, console, or simply allow your passenger to hold it...

Sweet install, but I hope your installer installed some effective heat barrier material while he was at it, because your iPod isn't going to dig all the heat generated inside that compartment -- at all.

Thank you. They used Dynamat for sound deadening in the doors. I had never heard of doing that before and they strongly recommended it.

Nice job though!!!
Thank you. One of the advantages is that the glove box is already quite full with stuff and the console is empty. Secondly, the IPod is hidden away in the console so when I am parked don't need to put it away (always worried about the attention it will take and someone smashing a Window for a quick grab. :-))

It does get warm in there. I have actually ran an XM Roady as well as an IPod in there without problems. I haven't done so for > 4 hour trips, but it has worked without problems so far. (Fingers crossed)

sound deadening the doors is well worth the money. will get you the most out of any speaker you put in your doors.
as far as the ipod in the center... i had one bust on me due to the heat (i suspect) I flew to fla to get my vette and we road tripped across country. by the time i got back to cali the ipod was dead. I had kept the ipod where you have yours and it would get pretty toasty.
i would at least dynamat or use some sort of heat shield on the underside of that console.
