Replacing C5 fact speakers
How easy is it to fit 6x9s in the doors? Anyone have experience with this? I want to keep the appearance stock as possible.
second...if you're not adding an amp you wont see much improvement with replacing the bose speaker assembly, actually it will probably hurt the sound quality because finding a full range signal to pipe to the speakers will be a challenge in itself. your best bet is to just switch out the 'twiddler' with a 3.5" speaker and the rears with a 5.25 or 6.5" high efficiency speaker.
FAQ first and foremost. Then decide a budget and how willing you are to either A) give up space in the car for audio components and B) how important improved sound quality is. From there check out the "what do you run in your system" thread to get ideas from mild to wild.
Many people have found the addition of a nice 2 channel amp (requires an adaptor) and 10" sub/enclosure plus the replacement of the 3.5" bose twiddler to a nice aftermarket 3.5" 2 way (Infinity, Polk and Alpine are popular) makes for a marked improvement over stock for not a huge outlay of $$$. If used stuff is ok and you understand basic electronics/wiring you could get it done for $800 tops with good equipment and some shopping around.
G'luck
