I'd like to put a small sub box in my 89. I currently have a 12 Rockford sub in a ported box but it's too tall and I can't store the top if I want to take it off. I also have a JL W0 that I'd rather use in the car.
Anyone have pics of their enclosures that allow the top to be placed back there?
I know the cubby is a great place for the sub, but how difficult is it to build a box for that spot?
Wow AD that is simply awesome! Did you do it yourself? I love the Plexi glass too, just enough to see inside but not too much to make it look cheap. (Even though plexi is far from cheap!)
Thanks for the pics. Been looking for ideas for a while and that looks good. Only thing I dont like is it doesnt look removable for the nights I go to the track

Question.
in a previous post you mentioned the stock speaker locations int he back are now storage.. what did you do to make them that way?
How is the cover attached?
Actually, the pics are from a friend of mine's '85 C4. I will be going over to his house tomorrow evening and snapping some more pics, including the storage bins.
To "create" them, a template is made off of the factory speaker grilles, then new covers are made out of 1/2" or 3/4" MDF (I will check tomorrow night for sure... it has been 3 years... ) and then covered them in grille cloth. They are attached with snap grommets, as they are called in the industry... they have a male end and a female end... will get closer pics for you...
Also, will get pics of the dash, and doors as well...
I like the new name as well...

How much does something like that cost?
I believe the ticket was $3,000... parts, equipment (all Eclipse) and labor. Now he has the vette up for sale for $7,000... Wish I had the money right now to buy it... it has been completely restored... new interior, seals, suspension, and the list goes on and on!!

So what is now in your storage compartments?
Mike's storage compartments are for misc junk like cleaning rags, etc. They are carpeted too...
Thanks for the compliment!! Yep, I did that install for him about 3 years ago, to answer your question. Mike is a good friend of mine, (I talked with him today, and told him I would post these pics up here for you guys) and loves Corvettes almost, but not quite, as much as I do...
Looking thru the plexi (1/2" thick I believe to keep the plexi from flexing too much), you can see the silver grille cloth that has been dyed... it is to not allow you to see the inside of the box, but to allow the subs to utilize the airspace needed to play correctly in the enclosure... kinda neat...
I just thought this may give you guys some ideas, and show you what can possibly be done... oh yeah, the top still locks into place too...

I guess it could be removable... just not a quick removal process...
