i dont know anything about car audio and am in need of a new cd player. only thing that matters to me is the display. i dont plan on adding a big sound system but may swap out my door speakers in the future.
so far i like the PIONEER DEH-P7800MP mainly because of the display.
anyone want to recommend some nice cd players to take a look at... cd players that are known for their nice displays. i have about a $350 online budjet. i noticed audio equipment online is so much cheaper than local stores.
Your average Pioneer is right down there in the bottom of the bucket with Sony, JVC, and the other typical head units that supercenters, Best Buys and Wal-Marts tend to sell. Stick with Alpine, Eclipse, and Clarion! Be careful of the people that tend to defend the cheaper brands just cause they own them.
Just some, many more though... http://ikesound.com/product-product_id/2826
Dont be misled by magred. Everybody makes an average deck. I have owned all he mentioned except Eclipse. Alpine and JVC have terrible cd mechanisms and all three of my Clarions only lasted about 2 years before they started skipping. Bad laser tracking units. Sony has good electronics. They were the first with the anti-skip 15 second memory. Pioneer has always and still is the best fm tuner, and I've had no problems. You get what you pay for. Everybody has a Reference Series. It cost more and is usually not available at the chain stores. You will never find Pioneer Premier at the chain stores, just as you will never find Focal there either. The DEH-P780MP is a bad to the bone H/U with a built in sound processor and a hoast of other features. I think one of the nicest units on the market right now. The new Premier head units have not seen their equal yet.
thanks for the fast replies. every cd player i have ever owned has been a pioneer. I have yet to have any problems with the 3 players i have owned... although i never owned any of the players for longer than 2 years.
i just bought the DEH-P780MP off ebay for 255. I hope it looks as good as it does in the photos... the display looks hot.
I have had many H/U throughout the years, heres my take on them
Panasonic-no problems
JVC-no problems
Kenwood-POS...lasted less than 1 year
1st Alpine-no problems
Nakamichi-best sound,by far. Lasted just over 1 year. Laser problems
2nd Alpine, pop out face plate loses contact and blips on and off.

I think you made a wise choice. 3 of my 4 vehicles have Pioneer head-units. In my red Talon TsiAWD, the Pioneer Premier HU and CD changer have been going strong since 1991, yep, 15 years
In the last 2 years or so Pioners have had tons of ground problems with there preouts
sure do...my p960mp has been pulled twice and fixed. Ive lived by pioneer but my next HU will deff. be Alpine. Its a shame because it's a really nice unit.

That's the deck I got. If you ever want to iPod, get the adaptor. Integration is pretty sweet. The display is cool, if a little cheesy. The slideshow is awesome. You can upload your own pictures via cdRom.
For everybody that's saying to go with Alpine or something...I had two Alpine decks that annoyed the ever loving hell out of me. I've had Jensen, Sony, and Panasonic decks that sounded better, installed easier, and were all around better (for me). To each, his own.
no a C4. It doesnt matter though. The C6 appears to have a double din opening (lucky! us C4 guys are stuck with the completely useless 1.5Din opening), you can pretty much put whatever you want in there. Single din, double din, double din with LCD Video screens, etc. It's just an opening that fits whatever you want that fits in there.
Plus he didn't specifiy what year this was going in.
