as with most Internet 'discussions' this is pointless.

Probably so. Sorry if I insulted or offended anybody. I guess I am just too old and poor to know any better.

I built one of my S-10 blazers for SPL competitions... did regular 160db's... Of course, I used 24 12" subs, and 12 amps...
But, get this... I also won a Car Stereo Sound Quality competition... the HU I was using was a high dollar Alpine, and I used (3) 6.5's in the dash... no amp, and no external stuff... just a HU, and 3 speakers... The subs could be turned off in groups, and I turned off all but 1 pair, and won 1st place!!

I truly love Sound Quality, but I will say that as for me and my Dad (a bigger SQ guy than me... he has a professional studio in his house!!), at almost 60 yrs. old, we both live for the thrill of 160 db competitions!! With over 65 trophies to show for 4 years of competitions, I can say that I have been plenty loud and obnoxious... I even love the music that our parents told us was "Satanic" (Motley Crue & KISS)... but more than all of it, I truly love the accurate and acoustically correct sound from a superbly done setup with alot of cool trinkets & gadgets to control it with!!

That is my story, anyways.... just thought I'd tell you guys about myself...

P.S. As a professional installer for the past 10 years, I can honestly tell you that if it weren't for cool gadgets and trinkets, and people wanting to replace factory stereos, I would not be in business... everyone has their own tastes and that is what makes us all truly unique... can't we all just get along???

But how many Corvettes have you worked on? Corvettes aren't as easy or the same as your regular everyday passenger car that has more space and isn't fiberglass composite with no ground.

It isn't the ideal listening environment but when you take the top off or with windows down and top on you are going to need some extra help in the factory stereo system. In the dealership showroom it may sound ok but go out and road test it in the everyday world while you are moving/driving.

Thanks for asking... Actually, I have 2 vettes currently at the shop, and 1 coming from GA. in a few weeks, and another one coming from FL. in a few weeks as well. To answer your question, I work on alot of Corvettes... I do everything from a new deck, new speakers with my custom speaker plates and an Infinity Basslink in a C5, to the full extreme tilt, like the pics below in a C4. I build custom boxes, do fiberglass dashes, do complete system changes, and one possibly very soon in NY in an '07 with a new Z1 deck by Pioneer while keeping the factory Bose setup & steering wheel controls.
I also did the installation and write-up on Gabel1's C6, which is this link.
I realize the shortcomings in doing an accurate sound system in a Corvette, and how very different they are from any other car... that is one reason I love them so much!! You name it, I have probably done it in a Corvette. Corvettes truly are my passion, and also my specialty. I cater to all likes and desires in a Corvette, and I love doing it!! Just ask around here on the Audio section of the forum. I am sure a few people will vouch for the quality of my work...
So please don't misread this post as me boasting about my work, but I do take Corvettes very seriously, and I am humbled by every opprotunity to work on a Corvette that I get from each and every Corvette owner, and I am very proud of the work that I have done.
Just for the record, they do have a ground... the frame.

It's too bad you are in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Wow, a guy comes into this section to share that he is very happy with the quality of the sound system in his new Vette and for his troubles he gets a load of condescendtion along with a side of belittlement? "You must be an old guy, not affluent enough, don't know what to listen for" etc. etc. etc., even if that is the case (which I doubt), so what? If you aren't all of those things, does that make you a young punk with a complete lack of class, who has WAY too much money (and time perhaps) on your hands, who thinks he knows everything, etc. etc. etc? Probably not...but keep talking and you may just out yourself.

I say if he is happy, then be happy for him since he IS one of your "brothers". Don't dump on his parade just because you are SOOOO much more sophisiticated (doubt it) and you "know" better. Otherwise, you're not just an audiophile, you're an audio snob as well.

Twfreightman, seems like there are always a couple in the crowd who know more than pretty much anyone and enjoy telling folks what they should like. F'em

I think it sounds great and everybody I take for a ride comments first on how great the stereo sounds. Maybe I am not a big enough audio enthusiast to know what I am missing, but I couldn't be happier with the stereo.....and everything else too!
Glad to hear about another happy Bose listener!!! Congrats on the new car too!!!

Love the OEM Bose in my '01 Vert. inspite ot having a fairly medium high-end audio system at home. Still the best sound in my custom- cammed C5 is the Corsas w/LG's full-length headers. Doesn't get much sweeter for my money!
