Default Help installing a Double-Din

I just bought an Eclipse Avn5500. Any suggestions or threads on how to install it? I want it to look as stock as possible. I'd like to maybe shave the top portion of the dash so the double din will fit in. What do you think? Pics appreciated if you have. Thanks

The picture of your work in other threads looks awesome! As if it was stock. That's the look I'm going for. I bought the Eclipse AVN5500 (internal dvd/ fixed mount). I want to basically keep the controls as they are. If possible, I'd like to maybe cut the middlebar out between HVAC and radio, maybe shave the top of the dash a little? Have you seen it done like this? I see you are always on here helping out everyone in the audio section. This is what makes this forum so great! Thanks From all of us you helped!

Thanks, Jason

thanks for the compliment. what you are doing is possible but; in my honest opinion, won't look 'as' stock as if you were to lower the ac controls. The mod really isn't that hard and you should take a whack at it and see how easy it really is.

I figured most people moved the A/C controls up because the have a flip up screen which blocks the A/C vent. The AVN5500 folds down only to load discs. If the radio say is 6"tall and the HVAC is say 4" tall (guestimates), what's the difference if one's on top over the other? It's either 4" on 6" or 6" on 4". Right? Please explain. You've experienced this not me. I like the controls where they are and @ the height that they are. Does my 4-6,6-4 make sense? Thanks for your help, jason

it isn't about placement, rather fitment. you are going to have to sacrafice the ashtray with the method that i used. you lower the 4" ac control down 1" and make room for a 6" screen, where it used to be..say a 5" opening (these figures aren't actual, just using your measurements to explain my point.
