Default Quick help needed with Xover mounting

I'm trying to decide on a place to mount the crossovers for my Polk 5 1/4" component set. They won't fit in the speak enclosure (too big). I'm thinking about on the floor behind/under the seats. But I could put them under the carpet at the bottom of the back wall. Do these generate much heat? Or should I just mount them on the surface of the carpet (either velcro or short screws into the carpet)? Thanks!

I'm now 16 hours into my install and still have most of a day of work left. I'm getting a bit frustrated and disheartened. I have been able to drive the Vette now for nearly 3 weeks (or even hear it's thundering roar).

I have all 4 speaker mounts built and 3 installed. Still need to install the right front speaker and its crossover. I have the other 3 speaker wires run to the location for the amp as well as its power wire. I have removed the old HU and have the top console trim pieces all removed. I spent some time fiddling with the new HU and it mount and I THINK I have it ready to install.

Here's what's left to do: mount last speaker and x-over; install the wiring kit to the reciever harness and run the 5 needed wires back to the HU (ground, power, constant power, antenna lead, dimmer lead); install and route the antenna cable; route the 2 sets of RCA back from the HU to the amp location (including a turn-on lead); mount the amp and make connections; make the fuse and battery connection for the amp in the engine bay; test; reinstall the interior.

This is what I'm having trouble with: running the wires between the HU and the amp/receiver area (amp will be on the "wall" behind passenger seat). Is there some easy way I'm not seeing of getting access to the space below the console area? With the console lid and shifter bezel trim panels removed, there is SOME space, but not enough for what needs to be run. I have this feeling that there is a bunch more space just BELOW what I have exposed. I also need some way to get wires between the console and the storage bin (where I have to tap into the antenna and wiring harness).

<sigh> Well, hopefully things will look better to me next Saturday after a break and a fresh start.

Try running the cables down the length of the tunnel. on the floor of the driver and passenger sides. Does this make sense

I have mine routed the same way as listed above and taped up on the wall (passenger side, amp under seat) for my RCA's just to give them some extra space away from my power wire. Have you pulled the HVAC unit out of the console area? Helps a lot with routing wire.

When running the cables along the tunnel, I assume you mean under the carpet? Or is it possible to tuck them under the end of the tunnel side panel? Is there an opening at the firewall already to route them out from the HU back? It seemed pretty well sealed.

Here are some pics of the completed work so far (I promiss to do a full write-up when I'm done).

Here's the original front speaker mount:

And my modified mount reinstalled (also note the amp power wire entering the car):

The rear stock speaker mount:

The modified mount (3/4" MDF shelf board fitted into the stock mount's recess and covered both sides with edead):

And installed to stock location (the original cover fits perfectly):
