Piggyback is a good description, I've seen it called an "Add-a-circuit". Should be an easy part to find at an auto parts store.
The db settings one the crossover are usually to adjust the response of the tweeter. Set it to 0 to start and adjust the treble on your head unit. If you find it's too bright even with adjustments then slide the switch to -3db. If it's not bright enough, go to +3db.
