Default Another Speaker Question ...

I am going to replace the Blaupunkt front stage setup when I do the sound deadening in the doors, soon hopefully. The Blau's are a good entry level setup and served their purpose, especially when I purchased them the price was right.

I have a budget of 500 for both sound deadening and speakers. I want to concentrate on the doors only for deadening as I will be doing the crazy cowboy kit as well as additional deadening in the remainder of the car later this winter.

Recommendations on a good set of speakers that wont kill my budget yet provide good sound ? One thing I am looking for are tweeters that have a softer high end. The Blaupunkt's are a bit tinny...

Appreciate your input !

Quite a few speakers would fit into this price range. I would listen to anything you are considering. A silk dome tweet will give a softer high end. Then go with what sounds best to you. Most on this forum are fans of the Focal components (they come in a few grades) and JL Audio, most would say, could be another way to go. Its hard to make too many recommendations with knowing the rest of the setup and what your musical interests are, if you could expound.

I listen to a great deal of Rock, Country and some easy listening stuff like ELO, Moody Blues etc. I'd say I listen to a rather wide variety of music.

I am currently running an Alpine MRV-F450 5ch amp and the sub is a JL 10W1v2.

It's difficult to get a good feel for speakers around here, most shops that carry a variety of manufacturers items are across the way in the greater Seattle area. There simply isnt much to choose from in my immediate area.

I appreciate the response... I'll keep looking and hopefully get into a position to listen to a variety of options.

You may want to consider the Elemental Designs. I haven't heard them myself but they're spoken of very highly by quite a few guys around here and there's a link (don't have it handy) that gets you a nice forum discount.

Silk dome tweeter in this set, as Speed-Racer recommended, usually makes for a smooth treble.

Looking now... priority one with the new set of components is a tweeter with less harshness. The silk dome seems to be the prevailing recommendation...

The ED's look nice... anyone with the link to gain the forum discount ?

edit: I assume that the extra tie downs on the xovers are for an additional mid range woofer if I decide to add them ??

I'm not sure if you can find them in the States but DLS makes some outstanding speakers. I'm running them and absolutley love them. The are winning most of the awards here in Europe.

They have to be available as I know that fej is quite a fan of their stuff. However from what I recall of reading about their pricing I don't think they would be in Jefe's budget!

Thanks fellas ! I think Im going to snag a set of those CDT's and give them a go ... I have heard quite a bit of good things about them. For 200 w/ free shipping I think it's worth giving it a go ...

On a side note, Steve Germany, I am looking into a MAC flight to Stuttgart in a few weeks for a buds retirement. Whats the countryside like there this time of year ?? I need to know what to pack clothes wise lol

Mid 40s right now. Although last night we had our first snow! Always bring an umbrella when traveling in Germany!

You will most likely find a MAC flight into Ramstein - it is only an hour from here... or 2 in a regular vehicle. I'm on Patch be sure to look me up when you are here. DSN is 430-7009.
