I have an 86 with Bose system and the speaker amps are going and I am going to remove the Bose system, get aftermarket speakers and a different head unit. Because I want the car to appear "stock-like" rather than an aftermarket head unit, I want to use a GM head unit. Obviously I am not concerned about the ulitmate in sound quality, just want somethign decent. I have a 97 Blazer with a factory CD player and that system is more than adequate.
So the question is, are any GM head units better or worse than others? Will aftermarket speakers work with a stock GM head unit?
the gm headunits basically will yiled the same sq. The key is to find a non bose or non monsoon headunit to get it to work, and it will work with aftermarket speakers. If it was still not loud enough you could add an aftermarket amp as well if need be.
I know for a fact one such car that the radio will work from for your application is a 97 cavalier cd player (they were all non bose for this car).
