yeah, you can definately spend less then the butlers, i'm just a huge fan of them ever since i got to audition the ones i have. I'll look for some other deals for you.

some other sub brands to look into should be jl audio (w6 and w7 are nice), soundsplinter diymobile audio (http://www.diymobileaudio.com/shop/p...ffe55205e0c9ac) may be good too.

other choices for amps would be xtant or old phoenix gold (ti and zx series) I know these amp personally and have had great experiences with both. the xtant was my old favorite before i went with the phaze/butler tube amps

nice amps:
http://cgi.ebay.com/XTANT-604X-75x4-...QQcmdZViewItem

(i had the 603x version of this amp)

you could also get one of the phaze audio tube amps like i have:
http://www.diymobileaudio.com/forum/...ead.php?t=6392

and maybe find a second on ebay for the subs.
edit: found one:
http://cgi.ebay.com/BUTLER-TD1500-TU...QQcmdZViewItem

or if you don't mind mismatched amps you could get a solid state amp for the subs.
you could also do an install like this:

If it's missmatched though, i would make a cover for the amp with some speaker grill cloth and make sure the amp was black.

then there are always the elemental designs amps, the jl audio amps among others

here is another one you may want to jump on:
http://www.diymobileaudio.com/forum/...ead.php?t=7022

you could get both of the zapcos for a kick *** system. you could go full active and power the tweeters and the mid basses of each channel. with that drz, it would be a sick combo. i think someone is ready to bite on that one so i wouldn't wait long.

edit: fyi. i have the 500.1 for my sub

Greg I see that you recommended a 12" flush-mount to someone else in another thread - why is that? and should that be what I should look at? Other brands?
Can you recommend some other choices that I might research into for the amplifier. Will a good HU run the subwoofer?
John
The ID subwoofers are great. Either the 10" or 12" ID woofers will fit. (not the ID Maxs though, those have huge baskets). JL Audio and Infinity also make good subs.

No, a good HU will not run a subwoofer well. In fact, the only HU I've seen that says subwoofers are okay are my Pioneer DEH-P77. Still, I recommend not doing this. No HU puts out enough power to drive a subwoofer well.

component and amp (depending on your speaker and amp selection can expect so see a dramatic improvment over stock speakers, or even aftermarket speakers driven with factory power

For speakers and amplifiers, my experience is with Alpine and i'm very happy with what i've used. My latest installation will comprose of the SPX speakers (200/set) and 2 MRP F250 amplifiers at 115/ea

Just make sure your entire system is balanced in quality. most all SQ systems are based completely on opinion, and personal prefrences. The hardest part will be picking a set of speakers that please your ears, for head units, you don't really need anytihng fancy, just somthing you're comfortable operating and won't get lost in the features. I reccomend Alpine again for head units.

Amp mounting and speaker mounting in a vette isn't much different than in other vehicles, the only exceptions are the front speakers (which will require custom mounting plates) and finding a place to ground your amp.

How about the Elemental Designs Nine.2X amps? I might be able to afford two of those.

Ordered:
Subthump 12" Stealthbox
eDi 13Kv.3 12" subwoofer
eDi 6500s speaker system
1/4 mdf front speaker plates
100 sq. ft. of eDead v1SE2

I have about 1K left on proposed budget for the most expensive stuff - amps and HU. Could go a little over.

you could go with the ed stuff. you could have a lot of fun with a nine.2x and a nine.4 if you get that clarion head unit.

the zapco amps are better though and at 500 aren't that much more then the ed amps...though they are used and no warranty....so i can see why it's a toss up.

2 of the nine2's woudl even work very well for that setup. The added power of the nine2x isnt even really necessary atleast for the sub its not needed. nine2x is a bigger amp as well. The ED amps are top notch I use them in alot of cars I do I just did an install with a nine4 and put pics up on the forum

OK, I'm on a roll. I think that I will probably order two ED Nine.2X amps in the morning. If I'm wrong somebody please stop me! LordyBe - help me please! This is now up to $1400.00 and I still don't have the main component. PLUS it's Christmas time, I have a family and children - and all I'm doing is buying things for myself to make the Corvette better!!!

NOW I MUST BEG FOR YOUR UNDEVIDED ATTENTION. I NEED TO CONFESS.

I have lied to you all. Most of all I have been keeping this from my wife of 29 years. I feel shame!

I still have a little stashed away nicely for the HU + the other things I am thinking I want for the system.

Scott_fx, Pentavolvo, Knewblewkorvette, TheRadioFlyer tell me what. I am thinking I want Blue-Tooth and I really think I want IPod, and Scott, I think I want to buy new. You guys have steered me toward good stuff like Clarion and I am reaserching as much as I can. If you add the blue-tooth no hands phone stuff does that tend to cut you out of the better audio equipment? Is that suff just BS and should I just get a good HU and stick to my CD collection? I'd ideally like to keep it under $600 for the HU.

You should be ashamed!!! Send me a gift and I won't tell....
Ever since I went the iPOD way, I have not burned a cd for the car, don't even know if the cd player still works. It is nice to be able to hear my favorite music and still have my collection of cd's safely stored. They won't get scratched that way... just my 2 cents...
good sell on a clarion here, just need to get the right adapters for satellite radio, iPOD, bluetooth, etc..

first off...your corvette is like a child. so dont be ashamed. my buddy has a bluetooth in his s2000 and says it's not very useable in a loud car, not sure about the vette though. if a deck doesn't have ipod control it doesn't mean you can use the ipod. you'll just have to use the ipod to select music while using the head unit's aux input.

if you want to save some money and put it towards that clarion :-D then i'd go with the 2x for the subs and the 2 for the components. 100wrms is more then enough for those things

as far as head units...the only one i have done any research on is that clarion, you'll be up to the help of others if you want other options.

You know when you get the amps, you might want to try the NINe.2 on the subs first.. I have the SAME 2 Amps, NINe.2 and NINe.2x. I am working on installing them, but I after testing out my 9kv.2 subs with the NINe.2 I think the NINe.2x is a bit overkill, so I am goign to use the NINe.2x on my components. but my system is a bit different, as I am doing a passive 3-way in front (while you have a passive 2-way) and my system is going in a C4

DPG - got the sub and got the box and it fits perfectly!

So far I am ahead of what I thought would arrive at this time of year - I have almost everything - these items have arrived:

Clarion DXZ865MP HU
Elemental Designs 13Kv.2 Sub
Subthump 12" Stealthbox
eDi 6500s Speaker system
(2) eDi Nine.2 amps

These items have been shipped:

Maptech Faceplate
Custom amp rack - Audio Dave/corvettecaraudio.com/national corvette registry
1/4 mdf door plates - Audio Dave

Thanks to Audio Dave/Corvettecaraudio.com - very helpful.
Thanks to Steve at Subthump for hooking me up with wiring etc. and the Stealthbox is very well built and fits perfectly.
Thanks to you guys on The Corvette Forum.

Now we must proceed with my ignorance.

Steve at Subthump spent some time with me on the phone discussing wiring. He sent me two boxes of stuff that I am trying to figure out how to put together:

Raptor 2000 watt amplifier installation kit =

Sorry - this computer is a POS - let me continue.

Steve sent me:

Raptor 2000 watt amp installation kit includes-

In-line fuse holder
Power distribution block
17 ft 4 gauge
10 ft 8 gauge
17 ft RCA cable
Agu power distribution block
battery terminal

Also sent:

Raptor RCA cable 15 ft 2 channel double shielded
Raptor 4 in/8 out distribution block
Raptor GM sidepost adaptor
GM 21 pin harness
GM antenna adaptor cable
a big box of speaker wire

I have been doing searches re amp wiring etc. but am still trying to figure things out. I'll get it, give me a push.

Two Questions:

HU switched power (to get power from ignition switch) hooks to yellow in passenger footwell or fuse #22 - correct?

Amps 4 gauge must get power directly from battery?

Help me I'll catch up!

PS. Tore all my carpet out and used 82 square feet of eDead to insulate everything except the doors. I still have the 18 sq feet left to do the doors when I put the audio in. Everything went back together perfectly. It's quieter.

Thanks - John

Ok GM antenna adapter is so you can hook the antenna up to the new battery. You are correct on headunit switched power then you will use the harness that was sent to you for the rest of the wiring you need behind the dash.

Now for the otehr goodies, 4 gauge goes straight to battery and you will use the battery terminal for that. Then it will gointo the 4in/8out block and then you will run the 8ga to each amp. The 2 included RCAs one set will go to each amp, and the speaker wire well it goes from amp to speakers
