Default 3 way system requirments

Can you use a 4 channel amp to power a 3 way system in the doors? If so, how would you wire this up? Wiring diagrams would help me out since I'm very much a novice.

While you certainly can power the drivers independently if the crossover network allows for that the normal setup for a 3 way system (or 2 way or any other combo) would be as a single amplification channel. You run a speaker wire from the amp to the crossover input and then wires from each of the crossover's outputs to the appropriate driver. Since the drivers do not overlap frequencies (as determined by the crossover) the amplifier sees the 3 way as a single speaker.

So you'll use 2 of the 4 channels of your amp to drive the door speakers. What you use the other 2 channels for is up to you.

Oh wow... that's far to simple. To be honest, I was really pulling my hair out over this one trying to find a six channel amp to power each speaker in a 3 way system. Now that I have the information you've given me I can continue with my search for amplifiers. You wouldn't happen to have several recommendations on amplifiers would you?

There are a bunch of brans that many of us like..

What 3-way system are you looking to use, that will help with the power requirements..

I am working on a new system in my 89.. I have 2 Elemental Designs Amps, a NINe.2 (2x100) and a NINe.2x (2x200). the NINe.2x will power my woofers and the NINe.2 will handle the front stage. Although I am still not sure on the front stage speakers or if I will even use the NINe.2 yet..

There's alot of threads discussing amps in here. My experience is fairly limited with car amps, but I've been very pleased by the performance of the Alpine PDX-4.150 I installed in my C6 - chosen mostly due to space considerations. The Elemental Designs Nine.x series is very well spoken of around here, as well as JL (usually followed up with "overpriced!"), and some of the higher end brands like Zapco.

I'm torn between these two sets of 3-ways:
**CDT Audio HD-642 - CDT Audio High Definition 6.5" 3-Way Component Speakers

**CDT Audio ES-643 - CDT Audio EuroSport 6.5" 3-Way Component Speakers

**Dynaudio System 340 - Dynaudio 3-Way 7"/3" Component

Bare in mind, I'm not sold on either one of these component sets, so if you have another brand I should consider or take a look at then don't hesitate to mention it.

I'll have to look into the ED amps since the Butler and Audison are just a bit out of my price range. Nice equipment, I'm just not certain about spending 1200+ on them.

with the CDT systems I have heard good things on the HD642 set. Also heard good things on the ES set. I have heard of Dynaudio and ntohing bad about them either.

I am also looking at a 3-way, but being limited on funds. the ES are out of the question. I was thinking of: the HD drivers with CDT ES/HD-300 crossovers. But due to limited funds I might end up using CL drivers with them as I already have the crossovers. I am working on my sub stage right now once that is done I can move to the fronts

CDT HDs are great speakers, but they sound overly thick, and very warm. Good or bad, that's up to your ears.

If you listen to a lot of music with electric guitars with distortion (nu metal for example) it will sound muddy and confused with the CDTs. Some highly distorted music (Blur #2 for example) just sounds like one big fart of distortion, rather than being able to hear the individual notes very well.

However, they really excel with vocals, and acoustic instruments.

I would highly reccommend CDT HDs if you listen to things like: pop, country, oldies, jazz.

But I would suggest against them if you listen to a lot of metal.

Classic rock and older metal with the shrill whiny guitars sounds fine. But if you're a fan of Static-X, Disturbed, Godsmack, etc etc, you may be disappointed.

Don't get me wrong, they are still better than say, infinity perfects, or other best-buy speaker gear, but they are just thicker compared to the likes of Dynaudio, Focal, MBQuartz, etc.

I used to own a set of CDT HD/CF and they do sound "heavy." It is all how you prefer your music, IMO out of those, I prefer Dynaudio, but I would go listen to them first if you are going to drop some serious cash on a set of components.

i was floored when i heard dynaudio in a 3 way setup in a honda accord. when it's time to upgrade my door speakers i think i may have to go that route. try to find someone in your area that has them and take a listen to them. very nice speakers

Dyn + tube amps would be a very nice combo Scott. Better than that CDT stuff you normally run

If you're looking in the price range of Eurosports, I'd have to recommend Focal components. I haven't heard anything I like better and have them installed in five of my family's cars. Utopia Be is my favorite, but can't have them in everything....lol. I would say 3 way components up front with 150 W to each side (300 total) and a 400-500W sub in the back and you'll be sittin' pretty on a damn good system. Oh, like was mentioned earlier, all you'll need is a two channel amp for the front, and a sub amp. Done.

H/U:
-Alpine
-Eclipse

http://www.alpine-usa.com/en/product...category=AV_HU
http://www.eclipse-web.com/cd-index.html

Amps:
- JL
- Focal
- Audison

http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_a...php?page_id=10
http://www.focal-power.com/index.htm
http://www.audison.it/default.asp?lang=eng

Speakers:
- 100 KP + 165 KBE

http://focal-america.com/Products/K2power/k2power.html

Sub:
- JL
- Focal

If you want to get a screen for the front, I'd still recommend either Alpine or Eclipse (navigation)

For the Audison amps, $560-800 should get you into the power range you need for the 3 way amp, of course it's another 600-750 for the sub amp....JL gets both out of the way for ~1000-1100. Hope this helps.
