Here's the info from the service manual:

Remove the accessory switch panel.
Remove the inside handle bezel. Refer to Handle Bezel Replacement - Inside.
Remove the window regulator handle and spacer, if equipped.
Remove the outside rearview mirror bezel. Refer to Mirror Replacement .
Remove the side door armrest bolts (2).
Remove the front side door trim from the door inner panel.
Pull the side door trim up from the door, making sure the hooks release from the holes in the door inner.
Disconnect the door speaker electrical connectors.
Remove the courtesy lamp socket from the door trim.

I've been helping a buddy with an '02 Z28 do his system, though it was a couple of months ago when we pulled the door panels off. It was mostly lift up plastic, pull out bolts and then lift the door panel off. The Z has male hard plastic hooks that clip into the door. Lift and work the panel slowly so you don't break those male connectors on the door panel, I believe they're molded in.

Having owned 2 firebirds in the past, the above makes it sound maybe easier than it is. In some ways harder. Make sure that you get ALL of the bolts out. When you do, it really is not that hard to get the panel off, it pulls up with little to no force at all (we're talking GM here, of course its easy). If its hard to get it out, you missed a bolt. There is one or 2 i believe in the pocket connected to the speaker. then a big one in a little hole in the handle/arm rest/oh-**** grip, then you need to undo the screw where the door lever is and take off the lock button cover, there is probably a screw in there too, its been about 2 years my memory for this is only mostly good. Anyway, then of course you ahve to get the instrument bezel plate with the window/door buttons. Its pretty easy, then disconnect it. It has tabs, and doesn't take much work to get out. I think there is a bolt under it too, can't remember. At this point it should be pretty flimsy and ought to just pull out. Make sur you disconnect the mirror control, but there is no reason to disconnect the mirror from the car. the speaker is right there when you are done. But there is some plastic liner and insulation in there, so be careful with it, and don't get the black adhesive goop on you or your clothes, its nasty stuff. try to align it where it was when you put it all back. The speaker is held in by some hex head bolts, i think 8 mm or something. or you can use a screw driver. not too tough. Just don't break anything or pull too hard, it should all fall apart very easy when you get ALL the screws out.
