Most of the problem with extracting SQ out of the iPod is you must go through it's mediocre DACs. I've promoted the units that allow audio output from the bottom of the iPod as being as good as it gets (something like H/Ks Drive + play). Alpine showed their new H/U that EXCLUSIVELY uses the DIGITAL output from the iPod this year at CES. Of course the iDA-X001 also controls (in full speed) and charges the iPod, and then provides high quality DACs.

on a side note, i would like to thank everyone who helped me with my stereo and made me notice the big difference with ipod music and cd quality. never noticed it in the ****ty bose.
