Hi all, bought a car off of here (2000 frc) and want to upgrade the factory system because it sucks......bose sucks. Anyway i want to get a premire head unit, along with either EDi6000s or the cdt cl-61as...im on the fence about which ones to go with. I will either be putting in a single 12' sub, an older rockford hx2 or a edk13....havent decided yet. Amp wise i would rather go with one amp, like a phoenix gold r804 or ed 4 channel amp, but i could go with 2 amps because i already have an old batwing rockford amp that would power the components. What do you guys think of this system. Which component set would you buy? and what amp config would you go with. Also can i run a stealth box with an frc.....i dont know the differences in the cargo area between a fixed roof and a hatch. Thanks in advance, Chase
Stealth box works in all vettes. As far as EDI vs CL-61s. I ran the old EDI6000s and like them more then the CL-61s and the new ones which are bein realeased this week are supposed to be even better. The 13kv is the sub to go with hands down its a kick *** sub. I recently did an install with EDI6500s and 13kv with a Nine4 for a forum memeber and it worked out great. The Nine4 is way underrated in my opinion has a smaller footprint and is nicer then the 8.0:4. I have heard both amps in somewhat similar installs in vettes and I prefer the Nine4. I think if you want to get the most out of your equipment you should run 2 seperate amps. Both of those 4 channels will power the system but are underpowering the system. Also I would recommend doing some amount of sounddeadening in your doors it will get the most out of your new speakers. The premiere is a sweet radio as well. If you wanna see some install pics I link to 2 diff installs on the last page of the C5 FAQ under my username.
If you didnt know there are forum discounts on the ED stuff we can tell you how to get them but they are only good till the end of the month and they are for a substantial amount of money. Also check out knukonceptz.com for quality wire at a killer price
EDIT: The nine4 is currently out of stock im not sure when it will be back in you would have to call to find out. With that said the PG is a great budget amp. Other 4 channels to look for include Kicker, Eclipse, Polk Momo c400.4

i always suggest looking for older soundstream ref amps. the build and sound quality are great.
if that h/u has a built in x-over you can always play with going fully active. a few of us have been doing it for years, and a few of us are just getting into it (thats me!). you probably could go with a nice seas setup and get killer performance.
and definately put in the sound deadening. my cl-61a's would break up when crossed over below 80hz. sd should fix that.
Thanks for the advice. I think i will just go with a full ED setup, although i might get a different amp/amps if its going to be underpowered. I dont fully understand what having an active system is? Ive had systems on about 4 different rides but never ran an active setup. Thanks Chase

Active set-up is basically one Amp channel PER Speaker.. then an electronic crossover before the amps (could be in the Headunit or Amp as well)
Passive for example is a 2 way component system where the tweeter and midrange connect to a 'box' (corssover then to the amp)
I am using a combination of both, I am using the built in Crossovers on my eD amps and then a passive crossover for my front 3-way system.
As for eD amps, I doubt you will be underpowered with them.. I have dual NINe.2x and they are PLENTY for that little cabin.
If your head unit has the RCA jacks on the back ,rahter than a bundle of cable, DONT get the knukonceptz rcas, the connectors are huge, and you wont be able to install your head unit.

to clarify, this means that if your rca jacks are built into the rear of the housing of the HU, then dont get the knukonceptz wiring. if they are pig tail rcas where they have a cable hanging out and then you have the rca jacks, then you will be golden with the knukonceptz wiring.
ok, good to know. I think i will go passive just because it is a bit easier to install, or i know how to install a passive system that is. I am going to run 2 amps though, i am going to sell my 1500bd rockford (benched at 1600+rms, it blew 2 hx2-12's thats why i had it tested) its WAY too much amp for this install. Anyway, thanks for the tips and advice, when i do this install in a few weeks i will takes some pics of it.
