Love the window idea. If you really want to be creative, you could do a little etching on the plexi and the LEDs would really set it off.
Home depot offers 1/2" MDF if 3/4" is too heavy for your application.
Cooling fans are a HIGHLY RECCOMENDED. the good news is that fans smaller then 70mm draw so little current you can run them off the run on lead without a relay and run the ground to your amp's ground.
I don't have the steady hand for the etching..
The cover will be 3/4" thick.. I was thinking of 1/4 plexi for strength as well as 1/4 on top and bottom to sandwich the plexi.
you know; if you're not going to be side lighting it, i wouldn't even bother with the etching go online and find a vinyl place that has c4 logo's and just have him cut out the emblem from some frosted vinyl and be done with it.

Emblem is going under the carpet int he center of the rack..
The procedure would be rather simple. Find a kinkos with a large copier and enlarge your picture. Then trace it with an engraver on to the plexi.
What i could do (depending on the size of the actual etching) is get some plexi and etch the design for you. (i'd have to charge for the plexi, shipping and such) PM me the dimentions and design and we can talk.
you can see some of my etching work on this thread:
he needs it cut out of wood or some material so that he can glue it down before carpeting. after that he'll carpet it and it'll come through as a raised logo.
oh...(bleep) I think i saw a commercial for a craftsman computer router that looks like a printer that can rout just about anything you program it to. (including compound curve 3D routing)
