How good are their older amps? A friend of mine has an A/D/S amp from about 8 years ago. it is a 6 channel approx 25 watts per channel. I don't know the model # yet. but I am going to be trading him one of my 2 channel amps for this. I was planning on putting the A/D/S in my vette and replacing the Orion 225 HCCA 2channel amp I am currently using.. the final system will be using speaker I currently have:
Eclipse 5303 Headunit
Front speakers are Orion HCCA 5s components
rear speakers are Infinity 510CS components
Subwoofer is a Bazooka 6.5" tube with a Kicker freeair speaker.
Reason for the 6 channel is to regain the fader controls and a seperate bass output from the radio. The amp will cost me nothing. but not sure if it will be as good as the orion.. any thoughts?
A/D/S and Orion both have excellent reputations for amplifiers, A/D/S I would say has a better rep by just a little. However, I seriously doubt you'd notice an audible difference. If you gain your fader controls and bass output, sounds like a good idea to me. If you're taking a hit on available power though, you may want to think about it.
I have an A/D/S PQ20 from 12 years ago and it's still going strong. I just installed it again in my Vette to power my 15" sub. I Power the other 4 channels with an ORION Extreme 800x4 which is also very good.
The old A/D/S amps are virtually the same as the current ones and they are in the top 1% of all amps currently available. Orion is A/D/S's middle line, Precision power is their starting line, and A/D/S is their top line. If you don't want it, I'll take it gladly. I'm eventually going to upgrade to them. I have soundstream now which are about as good as the orion but far cheaper than the A/D/S. I had the amp your buddy has and it kicked tail but it was stolen out of a car I used to have. I can't think of another brand of Amp that has been mentioned on this forum that is better. You'd have to spend close to $2000 an amp to beat it.

That is what I wanted to hear!! the nice thing about this amp is that it has a Din connector so all the RCA's are encompassed in one cable.. Looking forward to getting this amp in my vette
