The CB unit I'm going to install in my '01 needs to be always "hot" in order to remember the last channel used, otherwise it goes to channel 9 when turned on and you need to click up/down through the channels to get the desired one. I don't think keeping it hot will run down the battery (since the main part of the radio is "off"), but the C5 electrical system is sensitive to non-standard equipment. Do you think this will cause problems?
Also, I heard about someone who took a 3' whip antenna and mounted it horizontally, crossways, in the cargo net. Obviously not the best installation for performance, but totally invisible. Has anyone here tried that?
You should be ok as long as you get a good ground and +. You might want to wire it off the lighter wires if they are always on. I don't know anything about the antenna though.
