I am looking into upgrading my 2006 OEM system, is it possible to keep the factory HU? What I would like to do is upgrade all the speakers (6.5" door [using Nakidparts.com plates], and 5.25" rear panel) and add a sub in the rear, such as the JL audio stealthbox.
Would it be a possible to get a 5 chanel amp, something like a 4x50 and 1x300 (not specific, but looking at the Eclipse XA5000) to run the whole system?
Regarding the 3.5" dash speaker, is this a single speaker, or a pair? Is this used in non-nav cars?
As you can tell, I am a stereo newbie, please take it easy on me, lol.

deff can keep stock unit, its the center chanel just one speaker. most people ditch it when they upgrade. one 5 channel amp is deff doable. i might consider a big 4 channel and amping the fronts and the sub and either ditching rears of leave them off the headunit.

Center channel ain't worth spending the money on the speaker if you're installing your own amp. I also agree that I'd put my money into the front soundstage and sub and not worry about the rears. Leaving the stock rears on the stock Bose amp will give you some rear fill. If the thought of leaving any of the Bose speakers is too much to bear, put in a set of coaxials of the same brand of whatever component set you use for the fronts. Moving to a 4 channel amp vs a 5 gives you alot more selection.
Check out the link in my sig for the details of my install.
Guys - I have to differ. I spent the day down grading to the front DLS 2 way system with the JL Stealthbox in the rear. Previously, I had 10 in slim subs in the front 10 in holes and added 4 in DLS coax (external cross over) in the top door pannel holes. I've reinforced every door with two layers of dynamat extreame as well. I built up the rear speaker mounts and sealed them with expanding foam. I have coax DLS 5 1/2 speakers mounted back there.
If you are looking for the ultimate set up the door cavity can be used for top performance bass down to about 80hz. The Jl sub will fill out the very bottom end. 4 in (in you can find them) do a great job of providing the highs and punch of the mid range. Tuned and installed correctly the rear speakers can provide the time allignment and midbass that puts you in the sweet spot.
The JL stealthbox can not do the job alone IMHO. The doors provide an opportunity to fill in the area that the sub and 6 1/2 in component speakers just have no business doing. The tweets belong up high but a 6 1/2 in component set up is not the best that can be done for the
C6.
