I installed the USA SPEC-11 vette on my 05 C^ NAV w/o XM and it does not recognize module. Took car to dealer to have head unit reprogrammed to no avail. Does anyone know what I need to do?
IIRC there's no programming for the head to recognize if the XM, if the XM is recognized then it shows up in the menu, otherwise it does not.
Looking at the owner's manual for the adapter (http://akamaipix.crutchfield.com/Man...581PA11VET.PDF) it looks like you need to double-check the DIP switch settings on the USA SPEC box. Looks like you need to have DIP#3 in the OFF position and DIP#4 in the ON position. Reference page 3 of that manual, section 1-2-2.
The Lockpick is an alternative to this unit... the only difference I can see is that it still allows you to use XM1 and XM2. In addition to an IPOD it supports any Aux input. I installed the lockpick yesterday and its been great. All instructions to install it are above and in the General Forum with pictures.

I've read many good things and was willing to purchase the Lockpick. However, contacting someone who can actually help you is a lesson in frustration. Imagine the same scenario but they have your money and your unit doesn't work
I defy them to come on here and prove me wrong
Get the USA Spec PA11-Vette and save your frustration for better things.

If you're not a very experienced installer/geek I would agree with this statment. The Lockpicks work, but you better know enough on your own to figure things out without support. I installed the Lockpick/iPod Pick in my brother's '07 GMC Acadia, but if I weren't the geek I am it would have been a very difficult and frustrating experience. As it was, it was a head-shaking, annoying experience. But it DOES work.
If you are looking for an alternative to locating the interface under the drivers seat, you will need the the 5' iPod extension cable available directly from USA Spec fo $10.
Here you can see it is placed just behind the XM box
As well I ran the iPod cable under the carpet and drilled a 1/2" hole in the back of the console to pass the cable thru. I am still looking for a nice rubber grommet to dress the hole up.
None of these units are perfect but I think the Scosche AXIPCLII is the most flexible. It allows switching through playlist, artist, album, genre, control iPod from touchscreen or control from iPod. Sound is great.
Couple of additional notes on installation.
-On coupes, when prying up the panel in the back to access the XM module, wear gloves or something else to protect your hands/fingers from getting cut. You really have to pull up hard, almost to the point of where it feels like you are breaking it.
-As Briansc6 stated, if you don't want the box visible, you can buy the extension cable and hide everything. I put mine under the carpet behind the rear seat, but will probably change it to how Briansc6 has it.
-Also if you route the cable via way of the e-brak, all you have to do is lift up on the rear part and that section will come out.
Starr, I had one installed recently and it did not work. USASpec said they had a whole bunch of units misprogrammed. Give their support a call and they should send you out a new unit with the proper programming.
I'm rather disappointed with the QC. I've read about all the other issues reported by members in the past, but it seemed they had a handle on this with the new model, having read few complaints on it.
As is, I plan on calling Crutchfield today to see if they can help since USA Spec's support is closed until Tuesday, which I will not be here as I have to catch a flight and will not be back until the following week.
I picked up the iSimple unit at yesterday evening to try in case I can't get the USA Spec to work or get the proper support.
Quick update: I spent some time on the phone with Crutchfield tech support. After about 25 mins of testing and trying, we figured out the problem. The On/Off markings for the DIP switches were upside down effectively making On = Off and Off = On. Very irritating, yet satifiying to know that my saturday did not go to waste. I took the long way around town (25+) to go return the iSimple at the Best Buy that is 4 blocks over. Sound is excellent!!
The guy at Crutchfield's tech support was great. He even offered to send me a replacement unit with the correct markings. I told him it wasn't needed as I simply marked them with a marker and noted it in the manual in the unlikely event I sell the car.
