CDT HD vs Euro vs Gold
After listening to my CDT HD52s on head unit power in my daily driver, I think I prefer the smooth warm sound to my Focals now...
But the HD52s aren't as detailed, and certainly aren't nearly as clear in the midrange.
Has anyone heard the CDT HD642s? 6.5 + 4 + 1 system.
I'd think this should be nearly as clear as the focals...
Euro, I've heard just 'looks' different than HD, and sounds about the same.
the Gold series is new to me, and it commands a big premium. Looks like CDT speakers with an "exotic" material.
The Edesign version of the CDTs appear to be the HDs. Can anyone confirm?
I'm also intrigued by the M6i...

I have the CDT 642HD's and I find them to be very clean sounding, take power great and while remaining smooth not harsh. My .02 cents deposited.

Can you comment on the midbass? Where do you have the crossover set?

Kale, What Crossovers are you using with the CDTs?
I have heard that the upgraded crossovers help the sound, That said, I found when I was testing my CDT 3-way crossovers with some misc speakers I had, when I moved then speakers back on there original crossover (everything else the same) they sounded different.
I have also heard that the CDT HD4 is a very nice speaker, I am installing the CL4 main due to the killer price I got them for ($25 for the pair)
I am curious to hear results as well, although I have not heard Focals personally

Midbass is strong. Have a couple bass cd's that I use to used for testing when I did installs for a living. One track has alot of midbass movement, very quick, and they work wonderfully. As a side note the system goes nice and low too, could due without the two 8's if I had too. JMHO and my needs have changed alot in a system, 15 years ago that would not have been the case. As for the midbass, Nice and accurate, smooth, even at high volume settings.
As for the crossover, I set it in the styrofoam that is in the door. Would have put the in the rear right sorage but I have my upstage tweeter crossovers there. Since the upstage crossovers are adjustable I needed access to them. As for the crossovers being in the door I have had no problems with them at all and they have been installed for a 1 1/2 years.

Thanks.
I've been talking on and off with CDT, and they have a new M6 midbass driver that is capable of 40hz.
There are 2 ways that incorporate it, but I'm thinking this m6 is not so good for higher frequencies.
Here's my plan so far:
Bass: M6i 6.5 $200
Midrange: HD4 4 $179
Tweets: CDT ES 100 $100
My problem now is the crossover. They are hugely expensive.
the appropriate crossover - HD30 - is $249
Anything over $120 or so is just way too much for such a simple piece, and totally blows my budget.
I asked CDT to sell me an HD30 for $120, but I have a feeling it's going to be a 'No.'
So I guess I'm sticking with my Focals.

Search DIYMA they have had them there before.. I got my ES/HD 300 3-ways for $60
Also check with DJDilliodon on Sounddomain and caraudio.com
he will do a package like you want for a decent amount as well..

I found it.
he offered me the M6 + ES 4 + Es 02 cone tweeter for less than I was planning on spending on the HD set up.
I'm working out details with him now, since the es 02 tweeter might be a challenge to install.
Thanks a bunch, Jeff!
I think I'm going to jump on this set up, and give my tired 6 year old Focals a rest

Well, the ES-02s may not fit, and for some stupid reason, CDT made the ES-01 rectangular O.o

Why not the DRT-26 Tweeters??
they are modular so you can swap, Silk, or 2 types of metal tweeter..

supposedly the es-01s are more detailed.. closer to the TN-51 of the focals.
Dont want to give up a bunch of detail for smoothness... but some is ok.

if the ES01 don't work then use your Focals in the set.. should still work well

Well the main idea is to get rid of the focals. I'm sure ES-01 will fit, but it won't be easy.
The Focals are destined for a small .3 ported enclosure for shelf top use.

has anyone heard the new ES stuff?
I know CDT has never been audiophile grade stuff, but lately, I've just wanted smoother and easier to listen to.
Though I'm starting to wonder about spending ~600 for a set that won't have the SQ of my Focals.
Dyn is tempting, but I want insane midbass too.
Hmn... 4" dyn set with M6i mids..
