THIS SUCKS...... I am usually very good at the audio part of things but now i feel stupid... When i disconnect the radio that was in there it worked fine.. I unpluged all the wires and rehooked everything up with the new harness,, The cd play WONT come on.. I checked the fuse and its fine... I tried using a test lite but im not sure its working right.. if i touch a live wire it sparks... NOw just before i hooked the new cd player up i tried testing a wire and it arced some. I tired touching it again and nothing.. I have 2 pictures if u can make any of it out... HELP ME PLEASE...

Get a test light that works. Don't be touching wires to ground to see if they spark. That is NOT the way to check for power. I am sure you blew the fuse in the fuse panel. It should be a 10amp

Get a multi meter, instead of a test light. No chance of arcing that way.

You only need three wires to get it hooked up right. Most head units follow the same standards.

Yellow - Constant 12V (BAT)
Red - Switched 12V (IGN)
Black - Good Solid Ground

You just have to determine which of the factory wires is what when tracing them. Start with the IGN on, and test for any wires that have 12V. Then, switch the key off, and test the same wires looking for the ones that switched off and the ones that are still 12V.

I would suggest making your own ground but that's just my background talking and I don't always trust harness grounds. You can get loops and interference.

So the car is supplying 12 volts but the radio is not working. I think thats what your saying?

Put 12 volts to the power lead of the radio but connect power so the fuse is not in line. If the radio has a hot all the time usually a yellow or orange wire connect it to 12 volts also, connect ground to the radio and see if the radio powers up. Sometimes a fuse can look good but it is bad or the fuse holder may be bad.

I have seen bad head units right out of the box too, so bench checking it is always a good idea.
