Default Pioneer AVIC-D3 Interface/Installation Questions?

Can anyone help me out? As anyone installed a Pioneer AVIC-D3 in their C6 yet? I'm going to install one and I'm trying to confirm the right PAC Interface piece. First, I have an '06 w/ the Bose system (no cd changer) and without Onstar. Is the GM 0S04 the right PAC Interface piece and if not what is the proper one? I searched the FAQs and could only find info on the D1, N2 and Z1. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Kim

There have been quite a few folks that have installed AVIC's and other double-din units in C6s.

According to the PAC application guide, looks like you'd need the C2R-GM24. Here's a link to the application guide. It says 2005 Corvette but the '06 and so far the '07 are the same as '05's for that stuff.

You should try the C6 Audio FAQ in the Audio/Electronics section. Lots of good stuff in there.

Is this unit available yet? If you have one please tell me where you got it as I have been waiting for it's release. Now in answer to your question......the best place to go is http://www.avic411.com/ and ask your question in the forum section. Someone here has a detailed write up on the D2. Run a search. I am not sure of the differences though.

I tried the FAQ prior to my thread and spent about an hour searching but could not find info on the D3. Thanks for the input.

Thanks for the avic 411 site. In regards to your question, the D3 is now available. I've had one on order for a little under a month. My brother is a professional car/home audio/video installer and has two shops in the panhandle of Florida. He kinda has the inside track on the new stuff coming out. I originally wanted a Z1 but they were on backorder from his supplier and would not be available until April/May timeframe so I went w/ the D3 after he let me know about it. I'll make sure I take some pics of the install this weekend and get them posted. My brother was getting conflicting info on the part # for the interface so I told him I would do some more investigating and see what I could turn up.

Thanks,
Kim

One thing to watch out for on the interfaces, Kim... alot of installers assume because these cars are 06 & 07 that they're using the new GM LAN data bus. The C6 still uses the older class II serial data bus.

This is why I am hesitant to do this. There are so many variables that I would almost expect it to not be done right. Knowing nothing about electronics, I can't do it myself. If anyone knows of a shop in Houston that can do this install RIGHT the first time let me know. I would be willing to pay more to insure it is done correctly.

Default D3

Hope I don't have any horror story to report by weeks end, but mine is going in on Friday for a D3 install as part of my Phase 3 Makeover. Installer is here in New Orleans, and is someone who has done some pretty complex work for me in the past. He has been commercially sponsored by Clarion and Kicker in the past, competed and won just about every national title available.

Hopefully the "trend" will continue....stay tuned.

Good luck and make sure you post pics when it's finished!

The C6 is actually one of the easier cars I've worked on. Even as relatively small as it is the console is rather easy to get into, carpet comes out without much fuss, etc. A good installer shouldn't have any trouble with it physically. The only things you need to watch out for are their assumptions when it comes to integrating with the stock equipment.

Good info. Over Christmas, I talked to two prominant shops here in Charlotte and both insisted that the Corvette had the LAN system and wanted to mount the OEM HU in one of the rear compartments. After gleaning info from you pros, I cancelled the install. From what I learned here, I ended up knowing more about the system than the installers.
I'm still kicking around installing the D3. I'll do it myself before letting those hackers attack my car.
