I have an 02 C5 with the CD in the dash radio. I didn't get the optional CD changer in the trunk.
I want a changer but have no clue how to go about this. Is the wiring still there even though it didn't come with the changer. If so where? and how should I pull the carpet up? Also, when purchasing a new changer, do I need one with a seperate controller or does my radio have the controls built in. I would appreciate it if someone could let me know how to install it and what specific CD changer they bought or one they know will work. thanks.

I too bought my 2002 with the single indash CD and without the 12-disc changer in the trunk. I have decided to live with it but in the meantime I think you can get what you want from Ken Fichtner, the fellow in the first foum called "Ken's Newletter". He had the changer and the necessary wiring available at prices below GM's installed price with the new car.

You could add an FM modulated changer, but I would recommend putting in the OEM unit. Your radio can control the OEM changer. The kit can be bought from a dealer for about $600 (changer/harness/brackets), or an on-line source (no brackets) for about $350. I don't believe the harness is prewired already.
It sounds like you may be somewhat hesitant/unfamiliar with taking the car apart to do this. It may be worth the cost to get a dealer/stereo shop to do it.

From what I understand, there are two changers that you can use. One is FM, which means you get radio quality from your CDs, and the other connects directly through your head unit. Make sure you get the right one!
I purchased mine on the forum from someone that was trading his out for a complete system upgrade. Saved a bunch.
Installation only takes a couple hours. The hardest part for me was actually finding the connector. (hint: It is not actually in the footwell, but off to the side next to the door opening.)

Can you purchase the wiring harness separately? I'm trying to do the same installation with a buddies used factory changer, but am having trouble getting the Chevy dealer to find the harness for me. Anyone know the part number? And I think the factory changer is a 12 disc right?
The part number for the installation kit (includes harness from passenger footwell to rear of car and brackets to hold the changer) is 12496743. I got mine from gmpartsdirect.com for about $87 shipped.
