Whats this HD radio I've been hearing about? Is there a charge for it? What double DIN in-dash DVD units are supporting it? How does the sound and reception compare to regualr FM? Looking for some input from someone who's heard it.
Most large local radio stations broadcast in HD, it is a digital signal and mostly lossless. You do need a HD ready radio. Check you local large station's website. They will list the old analog station ID and the other HD id. It sounds like a CD quality broadcast, IMHO. No static.
It is their attempt to curb the satellite radio. Tweeter sells some HD stuff.
I'm interested also, but cannot find a place to listen to it. I'm in the process of installing an alpine radio/cd and would like to put in the hd radio, but not before I can listen to it.
This would save the trouble of ripping out 12 the interior of my 91 vert, if I decide to get it.
But won't put it in for $250.oo without listening first.
I bought an HD unit for my Eclipse headunit. Price is still expensive but it did come down from $400 last year to $200 recently so I bit. Does make a huge difference- my FM reception is almost as good as CD quality now. Much clearer signal...

Good info here. I've been wanting to purchase the JVC avx800 when it is released but there is no mention of HD. I wonder if they will have an adapter.?
I have the Eclipse HD radio module, it works well. Sound quality is very good, especially on AM stations, they have FM quality sound. You still need good radio reception to get the HD signal though.
