Just installed my system (see previous posts recently) and went for a ride tonight with the Mrs. The Eclipse 7100 started acting up on left turns. The power didn't cut out; instead, the the head unit acted like it couldn't read the CD. So I switched to Sirius, the same thing happened. The further I drove the worse the problem progressed. Soon, it didn't work at all and appeared to be searching for a signal albeit from an Ipod, CD or radio. Called the firm that sold me the unit and I'll be getting a replacement tomorrow. I guess everyone has a problem but doggonit, spending so much time installing I don't want to redue something again. Oh well, just have to vent.
And to add.. the second time into the dash is WAY easier than the first. You'll wonder why it took you so long the first time. While you're in there, check all your splices, connectors, etc. They've had a little time to shake and rock and roll with some driving now, good time to check 'em.
Looks like my own stupidity. I piggy backed the head unit with a laser blinder. As the 7100 works flawlessly, the piggy back must have reduced the needed amps to run correctly. Also checked the ground wires and all other connections. Here I am knocking the Eclipse when I should have been knocking myself. Get to take the new unit back with apologies.

How did you get a warranty when you installed it yourself? I'd love that option.
The business i purchased the gear from assisted in the install. The fellow who installed the head unit insisted it was the a faulty unit. The speakers were MUCH cheaper online so I installed those and the amps, with box. Still uncertain if i have enough air circulating through the box. Those JL amps will apparenlty cut out if they get too hot.

Self-install does not void a warranty unless the manufacturer specifically states that. Big difference between self-install from a legit dealer vs trying to get a warranty honored after gray-market purchase.

Which is what Eclipse did the last I checked. Granted I haven't worked in car audio for just over a year. My friend that owns the store does keep me informed. I visit often just to check on the new stuff.

I'm certainly no Eclipse expert so it could very well be they have lines that have a warranty requirement for professional install, but since Crutchfield sells Eclipse (including the 7100 mentioned here) and their primary market is self-install, that's what I based my comment on.

I suspect the warranty from Crutchfield is a Crutchfield warranty, not an Eclipse warranty.
I know that JL Audio and Rockford will push the warrantee up if a dealer installs it. The base warrantee is 90 days... I think the JLA warrantee is over a year if dealer installed and 3 years for RF. Or it used to be.
