Is it because of the arrows?

Hi Z064life -

V1 all the way.

How can you live without arrows and a bogey counter? Seems like you are just guessing without those features.

Case in point - on my way to work I pass through an area where I simultaneously get 10-13 signals (which pegs the V1 to its max of 9 on the display).

One morning recently I was behind an unmarked Illinois State Police squad. He was not taking radar, and we proceeded into the area that makes my V1 go goofy each morning.

All of a sudden the officer starts shooting oncoming cars and the V1 squawks and lets me know for certain that there was an additional signal in the area - and it was not in the x or k band, but in the Ka band.

With the escort - all I would know is that yes, it's still beeping.

You pays your money and takes your choice.

best regards-

mqqn

I was an Escort customer since they started making detectors, since the original owner sold the company their customer service has become pretty bad. I purchased a Valentine and won't ever buy another Escort product. The V1 is upgradeable vs. the claim that Escort used to make as to their product being upgradeable.....NOT!!!! I found the V1 to be a superior product in many different ways. Good luck.

they both have similar performance.

I chose the Passport 8500 X50 because I have no need for a gimick like directional arrows, I really don't care what direction the cop is, when the detector goes off, I react. Someone in the other thread used the analogy that the arrows are needed because "if you were on a naval deystrover and there was a "threat" you would need to know what direction that "threat" was coming from", well duh... of course you would! the "threat" is trying to KILL you!
but the police aren't shooting missles at you vette for speeding! so knowing which direction the "threat" was coming from is a moot point, as long as you know that there IS a valid radar threat!

I'm not concerned if he's in front of me or behind me, and if he's shooting me directly from the side he's not going to get a good reading anyway.
people are commenting that the V1 has a "bogey counter", well so does the 8500 x50, it will also give individual signal level for each "bogey" that it displays.

so I saved the extra $100.00 or so that the V1 costs over the Escort and put it to good use elsewhere.

now I'm looking at upgrading to the new 9500i

but this decision between the V1 and Escort really comes down to personal preference, buy the one that you like best and USE it.

Both the V1 and 8500 are very good and I like them both and I am considering the new 9500

Was seriously in the market until my brother (CHP Officer) responded to my questions.

If an officer follows procedures and doesn't get lazy they will flash you with what I think is called "Instant-On" (another words its too late). Cars are being upgraded with advance capability that will make the radar obsolete (ie laser--again too late). He also stated if you get pulled over and they spot the detector--no warning, ticket almost certainly given because the radar implies the intent to speed.

With this input I've put the radar way down on my mod list.

you're right but, If you follow the correct driving procedure while "speeding", ie: not being the only car out in front, staying in the right lane, etc...
they will hit the car in front of you with "instant on", YOUR detector will see the signal and you will be alerted to the presence of the cop, if you don't have a detector, you won't know that there was radar present, and if you were speeding you could be his next target!

so put that radar detector back at the top of your list!

I have the V1. I couldn't do without the arrows and bogey counter. I use the suction cups on the windshield mount so I can move it from car to car, and also I can take it down and hide it if I get stopped.

Taking things and hiding them when you've been stopped can make the LEO's nervous or suspicious. Neither of those is a good way to start off a traffic stop!
