Here are some pics of the install I'm doing in my Z. Im using a Kenwood DNX-7100 head unit, Infinity Kappa perfect 6.5 components in the doors with speaker plates from LEEA Customs. I mounted the crossovers on the rear portion of the door which was the only space available for the HUGE crossovers. Infinity Kappa perfect 5 1/4 components in the rear locations and a JL stealthbox in the rear cubby. Amps are an Alpine PDX 4.150 for the components and another Alpine PDX 600 for the sub. Im also building a box to house the amps and crossovers for the rear speakers. Currently working on a custom Corvette flag for the top of the box that will be slightly elevated to provide an exit for heat from the amps. The speaker plates were a perfect fit to the doors and the infinity tweets fit in the pre-cut holes perfectly too. Nice product Ed!

Personally I think those amps are too pretty to hide away.
Suppose you get a couple black project boxes from Radio Shack to put the crossovers in (or move them to a storage compartment). A couple of Corvette logo stickers on top would pretty them up a little more. Use a 2" Panduit molding across the back of the platform to hide the wires and carpet over the board and the Panduit molding. Leave the amps in the open just like they are now.
I gotta be honest. I just got that same amp and am looking for ways to display it instead of hiding it.
Everything looks great so far. Keep up the good work.
Thanks Guys, I like they way they look too. But I think I will go ahead and conceal them inside the box. The box lid is going to have a painted Corvette logo on it. Should look cool.

OK finally got the install done. I had to wait awhile to get the peripheral GMCO chimer module as I changed plans and decided to use a new DD nav unit instead of the stocker. I thought about using the alpine IVAw200/nav combo as I already have one in my daily driver. I chose the Kenwood DNX7100 instead as it was much less expensive and features Garmin based navigation. The Unit and the peripheral chimer were very easy to install and work great. I also finished the amp rack by covering it in truvette carpet from Auto custom carpets. Their ebony truvette carpet can be bought by the yard and matches the factory carpet perfectly. I topped the amp rack off with a custom C6 crossed flags that I made from 1/4 plexi cut on the band saw. I sanded it down and painted the crossed flags logo with water based paints, then clear coated it with PPG clear. I also lathed small disks of the same plexi to act as spacers to space the emblem about 1/2" above the surface of the box top to allow hot air from the amps to escape. If the amps run too hot, I can always install a cooling fan in the box sides. So far no problems with heat however. Still havent explored the full possibilities of the system, but so far it sounds fantastic. Next up to install is the full insulation kit for the Z from crazycowboy plus a bit of Edead in the doors. BTW, I must say that these alpine PDX amps are awesome. Cant believe that much power comes from such a small amp. All in all a fun install and the sound is just incredible, so much nicer than the stock system.

Great looking work Evan! You're an overachiever making your own Vette emblem.
That truvette carpet really is a nice match. I'm going to be doing an install for greenie99 some day soon and I may very well go that way for him. Do you have the sizes of the panels you used to make that box? Looks like it fits great and I wouldn't mind being saved alot of design work. And if I can ask one more Q... how did you secure the box?

Thanks, I just love finished pictures and a great install. Leea Customs many know better as www.nakidparts.com. Credit for the plates has to go to forum member TheKomoman the inventor and builder of the best quality mounts out and stereo guru.
Thanks for the kudos guys ,I had fun doing this install! I must also give credit to The Komoman and several others for providing much needed info for the install. I never would have known which module to use for the oem integration and keeping the chimes. Plus where to hook up to the parking brake wire and the reverse wire. I also never would have know about Ed's cool speaker plates too. It was so easy with all the info provided here on the forum! As for the box itself, Currently it is a press fit to the wheel wells. I tested it yesterday under hard accelleration and it didnt budge. It would not be difficult to secure a small bracket to the hump behind the seats to keep it from moving though. Size wise, the box measures 4.25" tall. I used this measurement as it was what I needed to clear the alpine PDX amps. For the width, I measured between the wheel well bulges and then added another 1/4" to make it a tight fit.

Need some help from the "thinktank" here. The system sounds fantastic so far after some minor tweaking. Problem is Im still getting a bit of alternator whine/noise in the tweeters. Ive tried using a ground loop isolator on the rca's but it gets worse with the isolator installed. I have the amps grounded on the side frame by the seat and I ran the rca's on the other side of the car from the power/ground lines to the amps. Any ideas on how to combat the whine?
Thanks in advance

Problem solved!
After reading the FAQ, I figured I would check all my grounds. I simply ran a new ground from the head unit to the amp ground location, problem solved, no more noise! Thanks guys for putting up such a great FAQ with so much info here. Now I can really enjoy the new system.
