I cant hear much with the top down and the GHL exhaust, but im thinking of upgrading my doors speakers. What's a nice upgrade that bolts in the C5 door?
the bad news is that there's no quick fix on this one.
the least expensive but most effective solution is to run sound absorbing foam under the carpet along the wall that's behind the seats. If you can afford it, i also reccomend running the foam in as much of the cargo area as possible.
The only speakers that will "bolt in" are 3.5" midrange coaxials. Eclipse, Boston Acoustics and and Infinity make these speakers. You'll notice an improvement over the stock speakers, but not enough to get the effect you're looking for. to get that, you'll need 6.5" speakers and preferably an aftermarket head unit.
How high can I turn up the level without blowing the speaker. I have to crank it up pretty good with the top down at 80 MPH. Im not sure which is louder at that point, the wind or the exhaust.
the good news is that factory setup is pretty much well matched so you can crank it up high without fear of it blowing up. At 80 mph, the wind will be the biggest problem. In order to have quality soudn with the top down at a respectable speed, you need a amplified system and well aimed speakers (espcially the tweeters) This means you'll need to drop at least $300-500 for the amp and speakers.
