*1 10 in a ported .8 enclosure getting 4-450 watts rms (well technically its not ported but its a 10 inch sub and a 10 inch passive radiator, from what I read online researching this, it basically has the same characteristics as a ported box, and people are more familiar with those in car setups)
-Boston Acoustics G510-44 (not at the price below) http://www.crutchfield.com/S-SO8wmsp...ston+Acoustics
and using the Boston Acoustics Passive Radiator which is designed for the sub http://www.crutchfield.com/S-SO8wmsp...ston+Acoustics
Also the radiator can be tuned to the following frequencies 49, 35, and 30.
i'd say the 2 10's. But i like tighter bass. I've never really been a fan of ported boxes in cars. Maybe because I haven't heard any good ones.
I have 2 idq10s in mine and I like em a lot. They are very tight and very loud. I have them bridged of my rear ch on a PPI 1000.4 amp and they are in a .5 cu ft box each.
I vote 2 10's in a sealed box.. but I may be partial Even 2 eights, or 3 eights would look pretty cool... or 3 10's. Maybe get crazy like Dvau and go with 4 10's. I know just the box you need too
the ID10s come in today so I should have a chance to at least check them out
500 total to the 2. so 250 each basically. Before that I had ~350w going to them with the old amp. The new amp is exactly what they needed. Basically what my whole system needed.
my vote goes for the single 10" in a tuned-ported box. in theory, you can get a more powerful sound out of your sub at lower volumes when you're at the really low frequencies. < 80 Hz.
With those watts it is hard for me to pick something other than the Image Dynamics 2 10" combo. Good fit for the airspace, good fit for the power that you have .. and a bonus 3db of output for having 2 subs
I'm running a single id10v.3 in a jl stealthbox. ppi amp pushing it 500 watts. It really gets the job done. I listen to mostly pop, classic rock and contemporary jazz. Its the best $100 sub out there hands down.

what worries me is that the .4 airspace I am giving them is the smallest requirement, so I am not sure if they will be able to hit the low notes like I want, since I listen to a lot of hip hop
With only .4 about the max you can make the woofer "see" is about .52 cu^3 which is I am guessing is before woofer displacement. You could go with a bigger 10" sub, but at some point you have to make compromise. You cannot take a 10" sub in .4 cu^3 and expect it to hammer out 20hz notes all day with authority. You can solve this by giving up more space for the enclosure, or going with the single sub route. You could move up to a 12" but they all need more airspace as well, and you are back to depth requirements.
It is all up to you bro on which compromises you choose to make. Most hip/hop bass centers around 40-50hz. This is often the sweet spot for most cabin gain in cars and trucks, and these are the notes that typically "hammer" in rap/hip hop. 10's in .5cu^3 will play these notes just fine .. it is the 30hz and down that they won't have much authority on.
