I've heard and even saw a magazine article, that shows mounting it behind the passengers seat. I don't ride much, but being 6'3, I didn't really consider this at first because I didn't want to lose the seating space.
My main question is this?
If you do mount it behind the seat, how will it cool? It seems to me that it would run awefully hot. Only amp I've had in the past was in a P/U that I mounted under the seat. No big deal. Plenty of air around it. Behind my passengers seat, the seat would always be right up againts it and I don't see how it would cool.

Re: C4 Amp location ??????s (R94 LT 1)
I'm running mine in the rear passenger compartment. It's never gne into protection mode due to heat, and I'm even running the brain for my EQ in the same spot.
I will try and get some pics.. it won't be until next week though. I will not have a chance to get some pictures until Wed.
Also I just used some screws through the carpet and into the fiberglass. no problems. I think the gas tank has about an inch or so of space away from the back wall.

I'll be looking forward to the pics. I'm glad you didn't find out the hard way how close the gas tank was though.
If that's the amp you want, you could mount it behind the seat. Heat rises. If you mount an amp flat, the heat will rise out of the heat sinks. If you mount it at an angle or vertical, you have to mount the heat sinks so they go in a vertical direction. With this amp, the wires should be pointing at the floor. This way, the heat will be able to rise in the cracks between the heat sinks. If you mount it with the wires pointing to the left or right, the heat will stay trapped between the sinks and it will be much more prone to overheating. Also, if you mount it behind the seat, it will give you 2 inches less leg room on that side and it will skuff up the back of your seat if you aren't careful. If you haven't ordered the amp yet I would reconsider it as a choice. The US Acoustics are not strudy enough to take lower ohm loads and they are not the best quality beasts out there sound wise either. Crutchfield also usually has relatively high prices. I checked the amp out at Crutchfield. Its on sale because they are introducing a new line and they want to clear out old stock. Might be a good buy for the price but I bet others would be doing the same thing so I'd check around first. I still like the A/D/S 450 which is 50wx4. Sounds like it would be weaker but its actually a stronger and much cleaner amp. Its on sale for$369. Just an idea.

Yeah, I was under the car before I had mounted the amp for something else and checked the spacing.. have you looked at yours? I believe the tank is metal.. But I did not pre drill holes.. I used 3/4" long screws, basically dry wall type and used them to create the hole in the fiberglass.
R94....
I have 2 amps, one mounted behind each of the seats. I am 6' tall and have my seat all the way back. I am running both amps in 2 ohm stereo, so they see quite a bit of load. I have run them this way since I installed the system in May of 2000. Never overheated once (and believe me, i'm no :blueangel: with the volume control). I don't forsee you having any problems except for maybe the size of the amp. My amps footprints are rather small, so I was able to mount them parallel to the floor behind the seats and still have room on either end of the amp. If you have to mount your amp perpendicularly to the floor, you might have to move your seat up a hair or recline it less. Other than that, you shouldn't have any problems. Good luck
The heat will depend on the brand and even the model number of the amp. I have three soundstreams. One go hot enought to melt my friend's spare tire. The others never even feel warm. USAcoutics are known for getting hot. Be careful and take the appropriate precautions(don't mount them in an enclosed space, angle heat sinks to release heat) and you should be fine.
