Default Is anyone here really good with plexi?

I need a couple of small items. Or if you could help me with how to do it

Basically, I want to make two round plexi windows. Maybe 4".

And in each window, I want the Corvette emblem sketched.

I'd also like to do a lip on it, so i could push it through an opening in 1/4" fiberboard, and have it sit flush.

Thanks in advance.

Funny that you mention this, because I just went to my local etching company here to get some work done for my stereo install. I was told he would not do it unless I got permission from GM to use their logo's (C5 logo and ZO6 logo). Down right ticked me off !!!!!!!

The basic shape you require sounds simple enough that you can probably custom order the parts from you local plastics supplier without it being prohibitively expensive, then do the logo yourself.
(These guys are local to me and I used them a few years ago. Perhaps one of their locations is close enough to you, or maybe they ship: http://www.tapplastics.com/)

As far as the logo, if you're handy you can mask the logo onto the plastic yourself, then media blast it to etch the design. (I've done this to aluminum; plastic should abrade much more easily.)

BTW,what gen logo? I believe I have a C5 logo in AutoCAD format somewhere. Using ACAD, you can scale the logo to the exact size you want, then print it onto adhesive backed paper (i.e. Avery labels) and cut out your pattern as a mask. I've never done it myself, though this process has been in my head for some time.

There is a Tap Plastic within a few miles. And I have DWG Trueview, so I can print Acad files. I don't have a media blaster, though. C5 is the right emblem.

The best way to cut plexi is to use a router table, a jig, and a very good bit. Use WD40 on the bit to help the cutting and the edge will have a near perfect polish to it.

Cut a 4" circle out of a piece of MDF then dbl side tape it to the plexi. The MDF will be your jig. Using a bottom bearing bit in a router table and you will have a 4" plexi circle. You can use a handle held router but it is hard to keep it flat on a small piece of material.

As for the etching...media blasting works but it would be best to find someone with a laser. If you find someone with a powerfull enough laser they can cut the plexi also. If you can not find someone I know of two people here that can do it.

Plexi expert here:

if you know the size of the emblem you want, i have some extra acrylic laying around the shop. (1/4" or 1/8")

i could cut/engrave it for you. (just cover shipping costs)

examples of my work

(on 1/8" acrylic)

(on 1/4" acrylic)

Hit me with an email addy if you want the ACAD file. I found it. Does Trueview do any scaling? If not I can scale it for you, as well.

I would love to have the ACAD file if you are willing to send it (although I am hijacking this post). I can provide an e-mail address if you are feeling generous
