Ready to pull the trigger! Please Help!
Trying to decide between the Kenwood KVT-617DVD in-dash DVD player with the KNA-G510 navigation system or the Kenwood DNX-7100.
I know the 617 has a hideway box, but the 7100 has to have dash mods that may be over my head.
Mounting issues aside, is one a better unit than the other?
P.S.
Is there another unit on the market that is by far a better DVD/Nav unit?
ive installed em both, other then dbl din vs single din same unit. At that price point nothing touches the kenwood. The dash mod isnt easy, hideway box goes behind passenger seat with ease. See my threads search my name in car audio you will find my 2 most recent installs dbl din and flipout kenwoods

Your biggest difference between those two will be the choice between modding the bezel or blocking your A/C vents with the flip out. I decided to go with the modded bezel from C5KIDD, can't wait to get it all done.
Garmin makes the NAV and gets a lot of good references.
There are a couple more wires with the flip out because of its hideaway box. Tobasco has the flip up and c5bearsfan has the dbl-din mod. The double-din mod is more definitely more work, but it's up to you on how much time you want to put into it.

I hope to be!
I've decided on my amps (JL 300/4 and 500/1), and now I've decided on a head unit (Kenwood KVT-617DVD with the KNA-G510 navigation system). I only have to decide now on components (2 sets for the front, no rear), and a sub/enclosure.
Just to add.. I went from 0% doing dash fabrication to doing my double din dash. It is not hard if you have some basic tools (dremel, sander, etc).. just very time consuming. I actually bought an extra dash to put in my car while I worked on the old one. It took me about a month or so of working on it a little each night.

Ok, I've ordered the Kenwood KVT-819DVD with the KNA-G510 navigation system and my HUmounts.com kit.
I still haven't decided on front components, although I'm leaning heavily toward the Pioneer PRS series. I plan to run 2 sets.
My question now is amp related. I was decided upon JL Audio, mainly because they are a known quantity, but now I'm thinking of going with Kenwood amps (KAC x10d and KAC x40). I know they aren't the same caliber as JL, but all I want is loud, clear, and reliable. I'm not looking for audiophile quality, especially since most of my listening is
MP3, but it needs to be able to reliably overcome the wind noise of top down cruising and sound at least as good as the factory Bose, reliably (call me crazy, but the Bose sounds fine to me).
Anybody know anything about these Kenwood amps?
Can I put 2 6 3/4" drivers in the stock door of a C5 or will I need to get 5 1/4" drivers?
Thanks again for your help.
I advise that you DO NOT put 2 sets of components in the front doors. You run into cancellation and multiple point source problems that will mess with your vocals and general reproduction.
If you need more volume, and let me tell you you will get A LOT more volume with the above set up than the factory blose stuff ever had, you need to add more power per driver, or get more efficient drivers, or both. Adding speakers generally leads to problems. Popular set ups here are the Infinity perfect 6.1's, the Elemental Designs 6500, Focal component sets (more $$$) CDT etc. I personally highly recommend the Pioneer Premier 720prs set of components. They would work great off of your 150w per side from your amp through the passive crossovers. I recommend them over the CDT, Infinity, and ED sets for sure. But at the end of the day you have to like the sound, and each ear is different. Audition speakers with the SAME power and material that you know well. Make sure the shop does not have any outside processing to best mirror your expected set up.

Head Unit and Nav arrived a couple days ago.
Still having trouble finding info on the Kenwood (KAC)amps, but I'm gonna go for the Pioneer PRSes. Still don't know if i'm going 3-way or 2-way.
I do have the passenger side of the car torn out and ready for wire. I'll keep y'all posted.

Got my head unit and Nav wired today. Fired it up and all appears to be well. Got pictures of a mess of wires, but it ain't interesting. I did actually get them organized and thinned out in the end though. Amps and speakers will follow soon.

New Question
In 3 channel mode, what subwoofer ohm load do I need to present to a Alpine PDX 4.150? I really want to run a JL 10W6v2 off the 3rd channel and a set of Pioneer components off the front 2 channels.

According to Alpine:
RMS Power (at 14.4V THD+N,20Hz-20kHz)
* • Per channel into 2 ohms : 150W x 4 (<=1%THD+N)
* • Per channel into 4 ohms : 150W x 4 (<=1%THD+N) * • Brigded 4 ohms: 300W x 2 (<=1% THD+N)
* • Per channel into 2 ohms : 150W x 4 (<=1%THD+N)
* • Per channel into 4 ohms : 150W x 4 (<=1%THD+N) * • Brigded 4 ohms: 300W x 2 (<=1% THD+N)
Based on that, I would say 4 ohms.

Or instead of bridging just run separate speaker lines to each voice coil from channels 3 & 4. I forget the exact theory behind doing that, but my good friend Sprkboy says that's better to do, so that's what I'm going to do.
