Go with elemental designs e-dead or raamat from raamaudio.

MUCH cheaper.

On the edead, what thickness do you recommend for doors versus floorboard and trunk area?

Tap the panel. Where its higher pitched/resonates longer, put more there. Where its solid, don't bother.

Anything but regular Dynamat

I'll give a plug to Anthony at Second Skin. Their damplifier product is outstanding, its real butyl rubber and foil(not asphalt like Dynamat).

http://www.secondskinaudio.com/viewp...94&category=54

Im ashamed to admit this but I have used Damplifier as an over layer over Dynamat because the Dynamat wouldnt stay adhered properly. If you have a spot that rings or buzzes, plan on using a second layer.

Also, since you are going to have most of the carpet out anyway, cover the wheel wells. You can lose a lot of road noise if you dampen the wells.

Thanks to these guys (on the forum) I went with eDead and Raamat instead of Dynamat. I couldn't be happier.

Second skin's Damplifier is supurb and damplifier pro has more mass per square foot than dynamat extreme.

if i had to guess the gost, doing the entire rear cargo area in a coupe would be about 7-8 sheets. The trunk pack is 20 square feet for $86. IMO i'd get the shop kit (80 sq feet) for $280. The best price i found for dynamat extreme was 2 bulk kits (totaling 72 sq feet) for $300.

The second skin damplifier pro is a far superior product. It's .13 mm thicker than dynamat extreme and is less expensive.

I'll have to see what I can get the Dynamat stuff for (have a connection, although my shop is ANYTHING but audio-based).

If it seems like a good deal, I'll let you know and offer it up at my cost.

funny you should say that....my shop it pretty much all audio/electronics. (it requires the least expensive tools: a splicer/stripper, electrical tape, scissors, solder gun and a box of crimps)

I used to manage a car audio shop for a couple of years after college, then went into the performance aspect, and eventually opened up my own shop.

I actually got so sick of the audio stuff (car-related at least) that this is the first system I've built in any of my cars since around 1998. I'm a little rusty, but the build is coming along decently on the Z06.

I just stopped in over at the shop and looked up Dynamat's webpage. I had no idea that they had so many different variations these days.

You're gonna have to let me know which specific product you want from them (and what quantity) for me to be able to shoot you cost on the stuff.

Take a look and let me know. I can get the pricing pretty quickly once you shoot me a message.

Fatmat: $180/100^ft (1.80/1^)

If i were to re-do my car, I'd probably go with Second skin damplifier Pro. Less expensive than dynamat at $3.49/1^ but that fatmat from ebay is rather tempting.

I think fatmat might be asphalt. Stay away from asphalt.

I went with the raamat and ensolite from raamaudio. The stuff is great. I got enough to cover my 02Z and my 99Tacoma for about $500. I already did the Z and the difference is amazing! And it doesnt weigh a ton like some of the dynamat stuff. I only added about 30-40lbs to the Z and I covered the entire interior with it (minus the roof, did the floor, trunk, wheel wells, doors and up the sides)

Dynamat and Dynamat Extreme are two very different products.Dynamat extreme is a high end butyl based product who's only downfall(IMHO) is it's price.I have used it in the past with great success, and plan on using some in my C6 as I tackle the audio upgrades. With that said, however,I need to order more product and will be going with Second Skin because I like their range of products and their systems approach to sound management.Anthony has been very helpful on recommendation of product and estimates on quantities needed for specific areas of the car.The prices are also very good.Again,Second Skin is a very high end product for those who want the best.

I went with second skin audio and used a shop pack and 2 gallons of liquid in my 03 Z its much quieter.....but not exactly quiet, then again if I had mufflers....

anthony swore the liquid wouldn't stick to the glass.....well it stuck no problem for me, I listened to him and put a the mats down before the liquid (with a brush) if I were doing it again I'd go liquid first, first 2 coats over teh foil of the mats barely stuck at all....

think materials wise I spent about 500 with the shop pack, roller, 2 gallons, some thermal crap I never put in, and a bulk pack of the pro foam...
