A poor mans 3-way (for C5)
I'm curious if the following is possible:
Aftermarket head unit w/ 50x4 or more
High-frequency blocker - run the stock Bose Subs off head unit power
Basic xover
An aftermarket 3.5" coaxial in the stock location (disable the tweeter)
Aftermarket stand-alone tweeter (mounted wherever you want)
perhaps this coudl also work with a 4 channel amp setup.

Well... Yes, it's possible. But it would probably sound really bad. You have to worry about speaker efficiencies for one...
On top of that, if you have a really muddy midbass, a really shrill thin sounding midrange, and a dull tweeter, it will sound really strange.
I think on a budget, just your typical 6.5 coax could do better. or piecing together a Vifa or Scanspeak/etc set up.

just thought i'd throw the idea out there. I've read a few post the past week about people who want "stock size" replacements. I'm thinkign they're just hesitant to use custom speaker plates.
