I am looking to put a nav system into my 2007 coupe. Right now I have the base system (non-Bose). Right now I am looking at the Pioneer Avic Z2 with new 3.5 and 5.25 Infinity Kappas speakers.
Do you think it is necessary to upgrade the amp? I don't want a system that will shake my neigbors windows, but one that will sound much better than the factory junk.
I have heard that the 2007 had upgrades to the base amp.
The AVIC has a decent amp built in, you might get buy with it. My gut says it is better than the factory amp as far as output by a bit. You may want more bass then the speakers you are looking at will give. You might want to look at 6.5 components for the front vice the 3.5s. You want to make sure the speakers are very efficient if you use the AVIC amp, BAs are very much so. The Infinitys are pretty good to. You may need to add a subwoofer, and if so, it will drive you to use an amp for sure.
I would try the AVIC amp, and probably BA 6.5s in front and 5.5s in rear and see if that is good enough. You can add an amp and sub latter if needed.
Thanks for the input. I have heard people mention the BA before. Does anyone know if those speakers will hook directly into the wiring. I don't know much about car audio. I think the BA's are a 2-way speaker. Does that work with the stock wiring or would I need to run more wire?

If you do a new amp, it will most likely not fit into the current amp location. You could use the AVIC amp or a seperate one, but the best best would be to run wires from the unit all the way to the speakers. As an alternate, and this would work well with the AvIC amp, you could run it's speaker wires to the output wires for the Vete amp, and splice them in. A new powerful amp, and your best bet is end to end speaker run.
You can buy adapaters for the speakers that will mate with orginal wiring. Cruthcfields has them, and Circuit City I belive. These would be of most value if you were not replacing the head unit, or if you decide to splice into the stiock speaker wires.
As a note, just in case, the stock speaker wires ARE NOT available up at the head unit -- the stock systems sends pre-map signals down to the amp in the passenger floor area. You would have to tap into the stiock speaker system there, you can't connect to the wires at the headunit
